Virtually every time I go out in the car, and someone wants to take you on, its ALWAYS some clown in a Turbo Diesel.
Virtually every Diesel owner you talk too, also tells you that a diesel engine is better because of the low down torque etc.....
If they are so convinced that they are so amazing why-o-why do they drive everywhere trying to prove their point.
They kinda remind me of the little guy in the pub who wants to prove how tough he is!!!

And even if you do rise to the bait, and give them a lesson in "more than 5000 RPM", when you slow back down they are back all over your bumper, like an angry wasp round your head!

I await the barrage of diseasel owners quoting 300lbft of torque at tickover!

Thats odd. I drive a diesel and have nothing to prove. I KNOW its faster than most peoples petrol cars. Shame its limited to 155mph.
There we go, just as I expected! smile

Clarify "most" peoples cars?

When the diesel drivers talk, do they use big SHOUTY words to try to get their point across?

Passat diesels seem to be particularly prone to this "I'm as fast as you are" trait.

Are you sure they aren't just driving normally and its you who's got the issues?
If you consider driving at legal pace on the motorway, with an oil burner licking your back window, then when you pull over they try to blow your doors off, I guess your right, it must be me smile

Assuming the OP drives a polo G60, then my diesel not only has much more torque, but much more power too!

This pointless thread could also be titled "why do people with sh*ty small luke warm hatches always drive like c*ocks........ ;-)

laugh
I think you right, it seems to be young boys with saxos, and middle aged men in diesels.
And not even close on the Polo G60 (even tho its a Polo G40, and a Golf G60)
Get your facts right!

I wouldn't worry too much, motorbikes are faster than all cars whether they're diesel or petrol.

Indeed, when I was 17 my 50cc moped could wipe the floor with every one of my mates on their skateboards. The ones on pushbikes were a struggle though
Love it, both comments...

But I am afraid that no machine on the planet, bike or car is faster than a remapped BMW 335D wink

If the OP's username is an indication of his car then this is relevant

Golf G60 stats

Maximum power 162.2 PS (160 bhp) (119.3 kW)
@ 5600 rpm
Specific output 89.8 bhp/litre
1.47 bhp/cu in
Maximum torque 225.0 Nm (166 ft·lb) (22.9 kgm)
@ 4000 rpm

0-60 mph 8.30 s

Top speed 216 km/h (134 mph)

These are not big figures!

If this is the OP's car then it sounds like its the OP that has something to prove
Yes, no wonder hes burnt off by your average diesel car.
Havent got a G60 golf sorry to dissapoint smile
Had one about 10 years ago when I made my user name on various sites, although it was not standard then.
Have a 400bhp Mk1 golf, running 4wd now so slight under the 8.3 0-60 times, by about half actually!!! But love peoples assumptions.
Daily driver is a sluggish 350z GT4..

Even if that is you g60. 2 things spring to mind.

a)you splashed cash to buy a modified car to show off with.
b)you get upset when people don't give your modified car the "respect" you seem to think it deserves.

You're not really coming across well there. More small minded muppet with a complex who drives badly, than driving god.

If you were trying to make an impression that made you look good.....you failed here. Just so you know.
Not after making an impression or looking good to you, that's not what my opening post said... Dont really want respect, otherwise I would not have a bog standard looking Mk1, I quite like the sleeper aspect of it.
It has just amused me for an hour to see how much of a hornets nest can be created by hinting diesels are not the second coming! smile

Lol...

OP was meant to say;

I wanted a G60 ten years ago, i finally bought one a year ago.

I had promised myself an MX5 five years ago and finally bought on last year.

Nothing to be ashamed about OP but please FFS do not be economical with the truth here, PH will rip you a new ass.
You have caught me out, I feel so ashamed...
Always wanted an MX5, but been too frightened of all that power and RWD.
Bow my head in shame smile

I have to be honest, despite some angry posts following the above I have to agree to a certain extent. I don’t think its so much Derv drivers trying to prove a point though, more like they are all in a rush and don’t have to drive like Miss Daisy to save fuel. I have come across many that are tts though and do hang off my bumper weather I am in my WRX or the wife’s 1.2 Polo and often when I am overtaken in a rather inappropriate spot there is often TDi written on the back of the car!

Imp not saying the above OP is all fact but I can see some of the thinking behind it.
Glad that someone kinda sees what I mean, and I apologise profusely if my wording made people think I am being nobbish!
Its another sensitive subject..
Never discuss
1. Religion
2. Politics
3. Diesels pros (and especially cons)

Hate to burst your bubble, but that only exists in my mind according to the significantly superior PH guys on here, so FFS do not end up in the cess-pit I have dug myself here for your own sake! smile

I suspect its because the company car of choice is a 2.0TDi. I have had people try to race me on the road but they've either got a 1.2 corsa with a huge bodykit and a bean tin exhaust, or they are nutters. I don't tend to take the bait.

It was particularly bad when I had my MR2 or my Subaru. It doesn't tend to happen as much in the 130i, although a guy in a C class did try it on the other day. I just let him go, its not worth the resulting accident.
I reckon that when you had your Scooby, people see it as a scalp because of how much of a reputation they built up rallying.
This means that guy in C-Class Derv beats your Scooby, therefore a C-Class would be faster (even on a forestry stage) wink
