Yup, crap. their rushed solution was for an FM modulator that simply sent the signal over the FM radio band. Mobridge/Dension and others are a far better solution and can be had for cheap on fleabay with installation all of 30 mins.
Excellent thanks both, that's a reliefAlthough not sure about your installation time, I watched 2 experienced guys take 1.5 hours to remove a parrot and replace and test the Mobridge. No cups if tea consumed either.

Worth remembering that if you fit a Mobridge/Dension it will void your Porsche warranty (If you have one). It's what puts me off and keeps my buying those silver discs (Not strictly true, I like having a physical copy of my music).
True but I don't have one, and don't intend to buy one as my turbo has the Mezger GT1 engine - will stick the cash into a slush fund instead. The Mobridge adds bluetooth, and handsfree is a legal requirement in UK if you want to use a phone, so in my view the Porsche policy is OTT and dangerous.
I am sure their warranty terms win in a legal situation, although if your engine went pop I question from a customer service / reputation / PR perpsective they would deny a claim. You can imagine the headline:
"Porsche renege on warranty for £20k engine because loyal owner fitted BT so he could comply with UK law and drive dangerously"

I've got the Porsche option in my 997 Turbo, it's not completely rubbish.
Almost, but not quite.
It plays back just fine, no radio interference issues at all - including north and central London where I'm based.
Caveats are no charging for iPhone 5 and you can't control from the PCM.
But, if like me you just want to hear some music it works very well, plus no issues with the car's warranty.
Did you spec the car from new? Just wondering what thsi option cost if you don;t mind me askingAlmost, but not quite.

Never understood why Porsche didn't embrace mobridge solution.. they could have done 2 tests on it.. put a Porsche logo on it... priced it at 1k and everybody would have bought it regardless.. I just don't understand how they can be so stubborn..
More bafflingly was their persistence with the crap SIM phone solutions when 3/4 years earlier you could get a proper BT solution in a Ford FiestaGassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
