One hour to go before I pick up my new CGT, so excited (despite the near torrential rain..)!! Feel like a kid on Christmas Eve again.

Pics and first impressions to follow.

Despite the crappy weather, managed c250 miles of A and B roads around Warwickshire and Oxfordshire.

First impressions?

Car is a revelation! Its a really precise instrument, great steering feel and razor sharp throttle response, feels like no other Porsche I have ever driven - familiar as a Porsche in so many ways but with everything just turned up to 11, so feels very different and the fit and finish are another level. To my eyes it is a bewitching shape and in the flesh so much better than in print - they really stand out on the road and even in a showroom full of other exotica. Black was originally my first choice colour but the launch colour silver shows off the shape so much better.

I thought it might be quite intimidating especially in the wet and on narrow British roads but I quickly found myself feeling relaxed and just enjoying the race-car feel and responses but with sufficient civility to make it feel like it has been engineered for fast road driving and not just the track. The soundtrack is pretty epic and the engine is just so keen to rev, revs rise and fall very quickly so you have to adjust your usual driving to it, but it soon becomes second nature. In fact it reminded me of my old GTR when it was on boost, when the revs just climbed so quickly it was difficult to compute, so in in N/A car, that is quite something...

Pulling away smoothly takes some doing with the ceramic clutch but once you are up and running the gearbox and clutch are wonderfully precise and slick. Plenty of grip and turn in is instant - seems that you think it and the car does it !

A bonus was the wholly positive response the car got on its first outing - lots of thumbs up, open mouths and camera phones at the ready. My wife even likes it, so my guilt is reduced down to manageable levels.

I intend to use this car rather than stick it in the garage waiting for that impossibly sunny day - it is sitting in the garage looking pretty dirty already, which suits it!

Stuttgart's finest road car moment?? for me, after just one day, it looks like it could be... (i'll get my tin hat at the ready!)

Struggling with photo uploading so will try doing separate posts.

Some spirited driving this morning - really inspires confidence but reminds you to treat with respect when you push on, as I found on a wet roundabout, but managed to tidy it all up and it put a massive smile on my face. Exhaust note above 5000rpm is plain evil!

Thanks for all the positive comments on the car.

I should mention that I sourced it from McGurks in Warwickshire, who made the whole experience very enjoyable and straightforward. John M is a proper petrol head and knows exactly what to look out for when trying to find the right car, even if it means getting on a plane and flying to Europe or the Middle East. Based on my experiences (buying and selling through them), I would recommend them without hesitation. I know he is actively looking for other CGTs.

I can forgive it the lack of luggage carrying capacity given how it looks, drives and sounds. No it won't fit Mrs B's luggage for a fortnight in the static caravan in Rhyl but for weekend runs to the sun it's perfectly adequate as others have said with a few suit carriers and a soft bag....

Looking forward to using it throughout the winter, but will draw the line at snow and ice. I imagine you would get quite a reaction if you put some studded tyres on it and took it down to the Alps with a pair of skis strapped to the roof. silly

It was a great trip.

Afraid you haven't shared a track with the car - i bought the plate recently and it wasn't on a CGT prior!
Wow! That sounded a superb trip - bet the combined noise of your cars that preceded your arrival at each stop on your route was something to behold - they knew you had arrived!

Have many UK CGT owners gone for the reduced size front number plate like yours? They look so much better but does it get though the MOT with such a plate ( or do you stick full sized one on?) any police interest also? Mine has the full size one on its nose frown

It is interesting re the sale of these cars. Many of the cars advertised on mobile.de didn't appear to be for sale/exist, sellers either sold months ago or are just claiming to have a car when they do not - all a bit frustrating when you are looking for one!

What finally persuaded me to buy was seeing a 4.0 RS reach c£350k....

Just had first drive with the roof off - what a noise when you step on it!

Nice car OP, sorry haven't read all the thread and apologies if it's been covered, but how do you find using LHD in UK?

Thinking of going LHD for my next car.
Re LHD, it really is no problem at all in the uk in my experience, so don't fear it, especially if it gets you into some interesting metal for less or that was LHD only. Was out in the CGT at the weekend with a friend in his F40 and we were trying to press on mainly on A and B roads. It does make overtaking a little more challenging at times but it is still doable, you just need to take a bit more care which is no bad thing.

Congrats to AndrewD and Myles on your recent purchases- looks stunning in red! All the advice on clutch use is spot on - I spent the weekend trying to rewrite my brain re coming off the clutch with no revs. Makes for leisurely get aways but will have to try the 2nd gear technique. Given the way it looks, drives and sounds, I can forgive it a non conventional 1st gear!

Re the photo in the garage, I have a lifting kit (all four wheels) which I use to get onto forecourts etc. it's very useful and was already fitted to the car when I bought it - a nice surprise as was not on the spec sheet when it was advertised.

If someone bought that for 320k and there are no skeletons in the glove box, then they have done supremely well.....

Having been in the market very recently and still talking to those who source them, whether people like it or not, the general market for these has moved on beyond that price point for issue free UK or European cars.

The latest one at MCGurks is a beautiful issue free example, almost as nice as mine wink

A white CGT with black interior is just about to arrive at McGurk I believe if anyone is looking for one.

I have seen the pics and it looks fantastic....but not sure Mrs B would take kindly to two in the garage though ("expensive 911s" as she refers to them - give me strength!!)
