Oops - apologies for the interruption to service there...

What is was saying was...

Looking at ether and entry level 911 Turbo (997) or for the same price what would be a further-up-the-range instance of a C2S or something similar.

I'm trying to get a feel for whether stretching to a turbo is naive versus going for a solid Carrera..?

I know people have immediately jumped on the detail but it's really not a detail question. Just looking for people with experience and their gut feel..?

Budget is implicit with 997 Turbos going at £40-44k for entry level. Beyond that, Carrera spec is largely irrelevant from why i can see between Cab vs 4 vs 2 etc... They all come in around the same #

Welcome any views - thanks in advance

Budget? Requirements! Preferences?
Rough, some and yes.

Just messing.

Budget: entry level 997 Turbos look at be c£45k
Requirement and Preferences from the post you can see are fairly open. Just looking for a groundswell of opinion going one way or the other to help me fettle down precisely those requirements...

I see these as 2 very different approches, with one stretching into the bottom of the turbo space, and the other being right up there in the standard Carrera space with a lower mileage, newer and more modern car.

If there's not much to choose between the two (according to you guys the experts!?) then sure it will come back to preferences....

Hope that makes sense

How are you planning on using it - daily drive or weekend?

Do you prefer naturally aspirated or turbo charged cars?

Do you want manual or PDK?

I'd say go and drive both, you'll know which you prefer.
Not seeing any differentiators there....

- 911 can be both w/end or daily driver
- Naturally aspirated versus Turbo is THE difference between the two but not a differentiator else I wouldn't be asking the question
- Manual available in both

^ if you know everything why bother asking the question?

997 turbo is the ultimate superfast 911. In gen 1 form turbos easily tuneable to approaching 700bhp and still remain perfectly drivable with the running costs of any 911. Be prepared for the odd eye watering bill unless you're buying an opc car with 2 yr warranty which will be more like £55-60k. Turbo in standard form whilst arguably the quickest a-b car in the world can feel a bit aloof and disconnected.

Gen 2 DFI 997 probably the best used sports car on the market. What it loses in power to the turbo it makes up for with touch and feel.

As the poster above recommends - drive both and then decide which suits your driving and budget requirements best...
Sheesh - tough group...

Appreciate the insight here.

Gen 1 Turbos and their tunability. Might well be something I'd consider down the road so great to know - thanks.

Also point about GenII noted. Sets a bar in the Carrera range.

Thanks

You're not being very helpful!

It's much easier to make rational decisions if you have a better picture of what you like and how you use it.

You can drive both daily but if you're crawling through traffic you might want PDK which isn't on the 997.1 turbo.

But your choice.

Maybe I didn't explain myself well enough in the OP - I'm not looking for help per sa just opinion from those with hands on experience across the two I'm looking at to help me make that decision. The obvious criteria are, eel, obvious. I'll absolutely be driving and deciding myself, but the knowledge here about more subtle aspects I can't unearth in a drive is the valuable piece I can't gain by looking and driving a few - above point around tuning for instance I wouldn't have considered but might be interesting down the line.

Anyway - not looking to cause friction. Appreciate all feedback good bad and ugly smile
