So, a strange topic you may think, but a year a ago I bought my wife a nice condition 996. During the last year we have experienced a number of incidents that we can only think are aimed at the car rather than the driver.

One the way to work my wife's 996 was rammed in the side on a roundabout - turned out the driver of the other car was trying to make a false insurance claim and thought the Porsche was a good bet for a well insured claim - unlucky for him he was insured twice and one of these companies was a sister company to our own insurance company. His solicitors then dropped the case stating they were investigating their own driver and our won company is sorting this out.

A few weeks ago my wife beeped a driver at a very busy roundabout for texting rather than pulling out, she experienced a massive road rage reaction aimed just as much at the car than the driver it would seem.

We also find being let out of a side road is much more difficult in the 996, unless another 911 comes along

Have others experienced this or is it just us?

So, my wife uses this car (1998 996 Carrera) for her daily commute, she wouldn't know how to make a lot of noise if she tried but she does really love the car.

gauging from the replies so far its not uncommon for these cars to attract attention from the wrong people

Its disappointing - I guess - perhaps jealousy?

Thanks for your replies, generally we have had a great experience with our two Porsche cars - only marred by two strange incidents

One accident where our car was rammed in the side (turns out was an insurance fraud and being investigated) and the second a un-provoked road rage incident when my wife was going to work one morning

Most times (as others have said) our cars provoke nothing more than a smile or a cheery wave
