Hi. Looking to add an early 996.1 manual coupe to my garage as I really miss having a Porsche this particular shape is really growing on me. (Used to really not like them!)

Ideally a 2, no sunroof, and as standard as possible.

I have been offered the exact car, 2000, 85k miles in silver but.......it's a 4.

I've not driven a 2 for over 5 years in 996 guise and never back to back with a 4 so before I waste some innocent sellers time, I thought I would ask for some advice.

1 - does the 2 feel better to drive. If so, why? I'll be using it for normal driving and track days.

2 - should I wait for a 2 as my feeing is they will be more sought after in ten to fifteen years time.

If you were in my shoes which would you go for and why?

Thanks.

Thanks geneve. And I agree that ultimately it comes down to how good the car is....

Amazing how few good 996.1 C2's there are out there.

Thanks all. Interesting re the weight penalty of the 4 and distribution.

Boot space, fortunately, is no issue.

Random and possibly a stupid question....but could you dye all the leather black ??

I'm guessing if you buy a car with an interior you're not crazy for, dyeing will be cheaper than a re-trim.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I have now bought the 996.1 at RPM......amazing condition for the age.

Also, did not pay list.....but then added lots of extra goodies.........

- Lightweight Clutch and Flywheel
- CRS Sports exhaust
- RSS Engine Mounts
- Anti Roll Bars
- Low temp thermostat
- 18" Gold OZ Alleggerita Lightweight Alloys
- Full Geo Setup for fast Road/Track use
- Racing Brake Fluid

Future plans include recaro pole positions, momo steering wheel and doing the full CSR treatment

As an aside RPM are very, very good people to deal with. Fastidious.

Now the wait begins.......bounce

Yep, took my brother there and they gave him a tour as well.

His C4S will be going in there for it's servicing now too!

All good still. In fact, loving it.

It's a lot more raw than the C4 Tip I had six years ago, mostly as a result of the upgrades I've done but also being a manual with the m030.

In fact, I have barely driven there M5 since it has arrived and so that will go very shortly once I fix a coolant issue it has developed.

With regards ongoing work.....short term, definitely a SSK, possibly a deep sump oil pan, and possibly some Fuchs for my daily driving and keep the OZ's for track only.

Long term.....the full CSR treatment.
