Potentially looking for a 996 Turbo
Discussion
Hi everyone
I normally live over on the TVR Cerbera forum, but have had the recent thoughts to find a nice 996 Turbo to add
I've looked at a few ranging from £30k up to £40k, some with Aero kits, some with standard Whale Tale spoilers and various options (manual / automatic) but thought I would post a quick message up here to see if anyone was thinking of selling theirs that might not be on the market yet?
Apologies in advance if it's not normal practice to put out wanted ads, but you can read my profile and posts - it's just me looking to potentially find a nice car
Either way if anyone has one that they might be thinking about a sale for that fits my very rough requirements, drop me a PM, or also if anyone knows of a great one for sale I might not have spotted, would love to know
Also has any strong thoughts on Aerokit versus non for future valuations, I'd love some opinions?
[I've read back through the forum posts to late last year so have checked I'm not massively duplicating any existing posts!]
Regards

Thanks for the replies guys
Yes the plan is to ideally keep the Cerbera, but add a different perspective with the 996 Turbo - although as with all plans always potentially subject to change
Re: style and colour - I'm actually, strange to sum, a bit of a fan of the aero style and not totally fixed on colour so interested in all combinations and UpTheIron, let's talk - one never knows!
@eastsider - budget is not as high as the 50's though I'm afraid - so I guess the best I can find within original budget as above
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the feedback guys, and opinions - all which are welcome to help build up my understanding of what I really want
Half the fun with these things is finding the one that's right for me, with the pretty good (IMHO, obvioulsy!) budget range I have, so I'm taking it all on board and seeing what I can find
Even started putting together a spreadsheet today with all the options on it (XAF, XKD, XKJ etc.) of ones that are out there - now that's probably taking it a bit too far!!!

OP have you seen the 75k Seal Grey Manual (9E tuned with desirable upgrades) for sale on 911uk (£39k)??
This one?Interestingly if so it's near me in Slough so I should be able to pop along and have a look - also comes with a lot of warranty and guarantees which is never a bad thing
There is also this one but I'm not sure if the subtle modifications are a positive or a negative
For me I'll be driving it, so they might actually be +ves!
Appreciate the feedback BTW (and what does OP mean?!)

Well worth a cheeky bid of £40k. Very well thought out upgrades probably costing £10k -£15k + = rocketship. I reckon circa 600bhp +. Looks stunning. That would blow the doors of most things
Sent the guy a PM as it does look very nicePrice seems to be lowered to the very top of my budget as per the thread so might work out...

Just get a PPI, whatever.
If you read what the Red Devil posted and also what I've previously posted, good car or not, a turbo can generate hefty bills with ease. Go in with your eyes open and it is far less of an issue.
Will definitely do the PPI (Prior Purchase Inspection - had to look that up) - anyone got any recommendations around the London area? Just to reiterate some of the points made on this thread, definitely be careful about condition. My Turbo S is literally one of the last handful off the line (summer 2005), but since I bought it at 55k miles (with a clean PPI from Camtune), I've spent a small fortune on things that on paper are relatively minor, and are simply a matter of common bits wearing out. Brake pads, a centre rad, aircon condensors, shocks, wishbones, top mounts, exhaust manifold bolts, heat shields, and boost leaks, to name the ones that were expensive - and that's excluding tyres, a posh new exhaust and routine servicing!
Nonetheless, with values holding strong I'm still well up on the deal, which is a very different story to most other fast cars I've owned over the years. I'd strongly recommend a 996 turbo as long as you find a good one.
Thanks Pete - advice much appreciated and after owning, and continuing(!) to own a Cerbera for the last 7 odd years I'm getting a little more used to owning much loved, but high maintenance technology Nonetheless, with values holding strong I'm still well up on the deal, which is a very different story to most other fast cars I've owned over the years. I'd strongly recommend a 996 turbo as long as you find a good one.
PPI before purchasing is the essential bit of advice everyone has been very kind to drum in that I do, and basically affording the best one I can seems the most sensible option - just trying to find the right combination of all the bits I like!!

Did you go to see the Space Grey one, keen to know what it's been for sale for so long at that price?

Did you end up going for this one and if so was it from Portiacraft?
Yes, I went up to Portiacraft yesterday as it's about 40 minutes away from me and they have a good range of cars so thought it was a good place to startI had a good look at the 996s there, both the C4S they have and the Turbos and decided in the end that a manual is ideally really what I want
The two sales guys were very helpful and busy selling cars to customers [so that must be good] and after chatting to one of them at the end he said that the Grey Turbo was actually sold this week, so just as well!
They had a 997 Turbo in black which they were getting ready for sale (parked out the front to the side, with the exhaust removed) but black doesn't work with my female co-pilot, interestingly nor do convertibles in London, so it's a non-Black, non-Convertible, ideally Manual 996 Turbo that I need
Phew!
The Dublin plated '02 is looking beautiful after the wash BTW so if the owner does change their mind...
On other news I am having some chats privately with a few people that got in touch, many thanks and really appreciated it, so I will explore and see how we all get on - no rush from any of us luckily
Regards and thanks again for all the advice, directions and tips as well as the photos
This is turning into the longer 996 Turbo thread on PH by the looks of it!

Alex, I just sent you PM about my black 996 Turbo S and just read that black is out. Sorry I only read bits of this long thread so just ignore the message!
Hi Jim - thanks for the reply.Black is out at request from the co-pilot, but I might be able to swing it for the perfect car, so let me get in touch just in case!

Hi OP thanks for the PM. Personally I'd up your budget and buy a mint one from JZM. It will cost you less over all in the medium term IMO as long as you do not do more than 3-5k miles per year.
Thanks for coming back to me and yes the market does appear to be super high at the moment.Time to contemplate what to do next I think as yes upping the budget could be an option, but then it might be better to take a back seat and watch for a while
No rush from me!
BTW seemed to be developing an interest in Cobalt Blue / Blue if anyone has one that they might be parting with in the near future

OP.
On the face of it this appears to be great value, the retailer could have asked more, if you factor in a bit of
negotiation then this would be a safe place to park your money. Details are sparse to say the least, which is
about the usual standard of effort from dealers (myself excluded), a quick call would fill in the blanks...

Funnily enough I already mailed them some questions earlier tonight as noticed it too and agree with your prognosis!
Will report back how I get on....
