We all hear about the bad stuff on these forums; how about some good.

Called into my local tyre supplier to ask them how much life there was left in my rear tyres on my RS. At the time total mileage was 5,600. After a bit of debate they decided that another 500 was feasible and would I like to order replacements. I declined and ordered them from my OPC (D.Lovett Tewkesbury).

With the mileage now at 6,080 today I have called into the dealership to have the tyres fitted. Alex the ever helpful service advisor took me into the workshop whilst my car was on a ramp and declared that there was no need to change them as I had at least 2000 miles wear to go!!! He so easily could have misled me but chose not to. I was so pleased by their honesty that I have paid for them (as they had got them in stock 'specially for me) which seemed the fair thing to do.

Nice one D.Lovett Tewkesbury. Yet another feather in your cap.

Shouldn't you be able to tell yourself whether your tyres need changing. .? confused
As I have bought 16 tyres in the past year (for other vehicles) from my local supplier I asked them to take a look when I was there on other business. Sometimes its good to have a (supposedly!) professional opinion - particularly on tyres that cost as much as these!

What the OPC told me today was that these tyres have 6mm tread when new and now they have 4mm on the outside and 3.5 on the inside. The inside wear is caused by hard cornering thumbup

I'm sure lots of people will come on to say how they had to replace their tyres at far lower mileage. Indeed, the OPC told me of a customer with a 991 Turbo S who needed to replace all 4 tyres at 1,800 miles! From this we deduce 3 things: he is probably loaded, he probably looks very impressive pulling away from the lights and ... he probably drives like a tw*t!

I think you are being unfair on your local tyre guy, how is he supposed to know how much longer your Cup 2s (I presume they are) will last, there're so many variables that his 500 mile guesstimate was probably a conservative fair, safe opinion, he wasn't to know you'd be Miss Daisying for the next 2000 hehe
We are off up to Scotland very soon with six other like minded souls to take in the NC500 all told about 1700 miles. Tyres will be well shagged by then. wink
