So, I have owned some great sounding cars. These have included several TVRs including a Griff 500 with almost straight pipes, quite a few 911s with PSEs and my most epic sounding car was a Granturismo MC Shift. The thing is it was very rare that I heard any of these cars at full chat from outside, but that was ok as the sounded pretty good from inside, particularly the Granturismo. I now have a 997 GTS with sharkwerks centre box that sounds pretty good from inside but I wouldn't describe it as epic. However this weekend I had the chance to hear it from another car (997.2 C2S with PSE) on several fly pasts and wow! The car sounded incredible, a 911 race car tone and a lot louder than I perceived. Also when I swapped back and listened to the C2S that sound pretty epic also, if not quite as throaty as the sharkwerks equipped car.

I recommend to any of you who don't know how your car really sounds (but are into such things) is get a trusted mate to do some fly pasts for you. You may well be surprised and pleased!

And BTW stationary revving doesn't do it as things seem to change a lot when the engine is under load.

Have Cargraphic silencers on my 996, always wind the windows down driving throught tunnels or where there are walls either side!

Been told it sounds great from a following car, only ever heard it being driven by somebody else once, did sound good.
Tunnels are great, but still don't do these cars justice if you're in your car (even a convertible). The only real way is a drive by or fly past. May Doppler does have a role to play!
