Hi all,

My 996 C2.1 is soon to be having some work done on it, so I thought some small upgrades may be in order. I'm considering fitting the upper brake air deflectors as seen on 996 & 997 GT3s, shown here circled in red:

Apparently the 997 versions are cheap and clip right in.

In the 996 & 997 GT3s there must be vents in the wheel arch liners to get air back to that piece of plastic; in the C2 they are solid. I've read that you can alter your arch liners to get air back there, but I'd really like to see some photos of 996 GT3 liners to see how it works and if they may be fitted to a C2. The PET diagrams are unhelpful.

I know it's not the weather for it, but if anyone would be able to stick a phone in the wheel well of their car and take a quick couple of photos I'd be massively grateful.

Thanks.

So I understand that the 996 Turbo, C4S and all the 997s have those vertical fins on the outside edge of the wheel arch liner to route the air from the radiators through the arch liners and out.

On the 996 C2 the air from the radiators doesn't go through the wheel arch and instead vents down.

997 arch liners won't fit a 996, but would 996 GT3 parts fit my C2? All narrow body after all..

On that photo of the GT3 I posted you can almost see (obscured by the stupid highlighting) the gap where air might come through the inside edge of the arch liner and into the wheel well, but I don't know:

Does any of the air from the GT3 radiator escape out of the bottom, as it does on my C2?
Is the wheel arch liner a one or two piece affair? (looks like a 2 piece from my photo)
Is a 996.1 GT3 different from a 996.2?
What part numbers I might want

Thank you Mr Diff, much appreciatedsmile

The mk1 liners would be no good then? And the GT2 ones would be ok? I thought wide body would be different? I guess the size of the wheel wells isn't affected by the body being wide or not?

Thanks Slippy, CLR, that was all very helpful smile

With the arch liners now understood, I'm going to take a quick look at the inner ducting to see how it gets from the radiator and out the back.

Are there any more accurate parts diagrams available? I've been looking at a big Porsche parts seller for the PET for 996.2 GT3 and got given a diagram for Carrera 2/4/4S instead.
