Today I did this to my sub £6k 986. weeping

I'm now fretting over whether my insurance will write it off.

Bumper, wing, condenser and headlamp all kaput. Radiator wasn't holed but is pushed back.

The good news is I'm fine physically. I was at fault and it was (eventually) a low speed crunch into the side of a bus. The rear wheel arch of the bus is what did most of the damage.

Here's a better pic.

Now for my options, noting that I don't have a place where I could spanner it myself.

At it stands I have asked the ins co to repair it and they are due to ring me tomorrow to arrange to pick it up and leave me a courtesy car. The wheel is OK but I'm not certain about the frame and suspension.

So my options are:

1. Let them take it to their repairers where no doubt they will write it off.
2. Tell them I've changed my mind and try to get it fixed at a body-shop.

I'm swinging between them at the moment. Head says write it off and get a shed whilst I look for another. Heart says try and get it fixed.

You'd fix that for a grand of bits off ebay and it's not a rare colour so extremely likely you'd be able to score the bits you need in the correct colour. Do you really not have anywhere to work on it? That could be fixed on the street in a day, it's not going to have tweeked the chassis leg judging by the photos.
The bullet has been bit and the bits have been bought. Let's hope the weather warms up a bit.

And how do I remove the carbon canister so I can take the wing off? The workshop manual I have mentions it but doesn't say how.

Oh yes, my protected NCB is going to take a hit, down to four from nine I think. The bus will have had some work done on it, there was a dent in the rear wheel arch but they probably fixed that with a three pound lump hammer.

Definite man maths.

The (mostly s/h) parts will be coming to about £650. I'm going to have a go at spannering it myself, since it is just bolt on stuff. I've found out about the carbon canister, which if it is like the one on the 987 is a one nut fixing; slide forward and unplug the lines.

I haven't actually been told about the NCB, I don't think I fully understand what the implications are. The insurance is up for renewal next month so I'll just have to wait with bated breath.

Here we are, she's looking OK again. Haven't fixed the aircon yet but bumper, wing, side indicator and headlight all replaced.
