I have a new Spyder on order and been assured it's coming this year by the dealer. That's great but I'm under pressure to sell the 987 Spyder, which I don't want to do. I have already convinced myself that they are 'very different' cars. My only hope of keeping the 987 is to assure 'the boss' that they will go up in value, rather than down from this point onwards. I have the 'purist' spec with 6,000 miles so feel safe that if they are going up, mine will as well. What do people think. If we set a benchmark of £45k now - what will they be worth in 1-3 years?

Well as another 987 Spyder owner (though getting the GT4 to run along side mine) I can't see them going down in value and agree they are very different cars - though only a drive would really tell - but the 987 Spyder is the last of the non-electric steering Porsches (or analogue as I'm sure someone will say) - and for what it's intended for that makes enough difference for the type of folks that are interested in these to keep the values keen for the limited number of cars there are...
That's interesting. I might have got away with it much easier if I'd gone for the GT4 instead of the new Spyder...

No doubting the Spyder is a v.good car but can't see these holding their value *LONG*-term like 911 'gt' cars. It's a Boxster at the end of the day - another car piggybacking on today's crazy market? I think they'll dip, then stabilize, but never hit higher than they are today.
Thanks Phooey, but that doesn't really help the cause smile

I am waiting for Mr Demon to come along and tell us they will be worth £1m and then I can print this out and give to the other half...

Rob, don't worry. I didn't my my flat in central London in 2007 when offered a stonking deal by the landlord - I thought the market was toppy. If I'd bought it I would be buying a 918 now, not a 981...

Good analysis KMF.

Although it's not a good sign if the dealer is calling you about the Spyder - you'd have thought they had a full order book but sounds like that's not the case (unless you are one of their favourite customers of course)...

Let's see what the journos make of it...

That will do! I thought I was going to have to explain bore scoring and IMS issues to the missus!

I am keeping an eye on the prices for Spyders in Germany as well as Switzerland and they are not budging. frown
Rumours are that the 981 Spyder is more limited than the GT4 in EU because most allocations are going to the USA, just like with the 987 years ago. The price for the 981 is between 90 and 95000€ with a reasonable spec and I suspect this also helps keep the 987 prices up.

At the time of writing there are only two 987s listed for 69990€ (~51000 GBP).
This is good news. It indicates that the 987 Spyder is capable of fetching £50k now for a good one.

No, a £50k asking price is speculation.

If you're prepared to pay £50k for a 987 Spyder you'd be mad not to take a new 981 Spyder which will be quicker and more usable.

People should view these as cars with a 'low cost of ownership' rather than an investment.
That assumes you can get a 981 Spyder?

I think you are correct. And because of this, I've managed to hold onto it (helps that the 981 has a bit of a premium)!
