Hi all,
Posting on behalf of my mother, re. her time today with the Boxster at Cath Burrows' garage in Standish.
We took the 987 to get the hood fixed a few weeks ago, and decided to go down the official Porsche garage route. After two attempts and a bill closer to £1000 than £500, they finally managed to fix the issue (a very common one) and charge us £23 labour for fitting a circlip, we decided it was time to ditch the factory and go independent.
A good job too!
Cath took a lot of care going over the car, and when we returned after an hour or so from the cafe down the road, she took her time explaining very clearly her assessment of the car. It was put on the two post lift so we could get a good look at what needed to be done, and explained very clearly in layman's terms what the issues were. New coils needed (incredibly badly corroded considering service intervals), discs+pads and some of the coolant lines were about to leak amongst some other things. Also a leak into the passenger compartment from near the hood mechanism (how the bleedin 'eck did Porsche 'rhymes with Schmendal' miss that?!?).
After recommending a set of coils and pads as the most urgent thing to sort, she told me that I could/should do it myself (as and amateur spannerer) and she didn't need to see the car again! Talk about honesty! Cath even recommended where to get the parts from and showed me the best way to go about getting the coils out/in.
In short, we couldn't be happier with the service and I wanted to write this as a short review/thank you because it really makes such a refreshing change to know you're dealing with such an honest, down to earth and knowledgeable person who cares more about you getting your car sorted than looking at you like a cash machine.
So if you're in the North West and don't want to be fleeced by unscrupulous types at a main dealer (which shall remain nameless as is the policy of this site), please call in at Cath's place. Address/number below:
