Cayman R - think I'm about to buy
Discussion
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice and encouragement, I'm looking at buying a CR as a weekend fun car for the long run. I've had a base Cayman and Boxster S in the past and then got some toddlers and went all practical with a Q5 and then to a BMW340 which is where I am now thinking that it would be the best of both worlds. Well it's not and I miss the Porsche, so I'm thinking of a CR and then a golf/cooper s for the week. Got a family barge now for the wife.
So I've been looking on here for a while and reading with interest. The CRs seem very expensive - are they going up and is this simply the price to pay? Does anyone have any recommendations of ones to avoid or good buys on the market at the moment? I'm not too bothered about manual or PDK as I have had left knee trouble in the past so head says PDK although heart says manual. I'd like one from an OPC just to get the warranty but don't want to overpay for it. Happy to therefore look at any respectable dealers or private.
Any thoughts to help me make my mind up would be great.
Thanks

Not sure who I'm waiting for but I'm looking forward to it.
Testing a PDK and manual beforehand is going to be difficult. I think I'm favouring PDK as I've actually had a total left knee replacement about 7 years and very occasionally it gives me a bit of grief, but if a manual is there that looks good I'll still go for it.
Anyone have a view on how the prices have gone over the last 12 months - have they stayed static?
Also anyone know any of the cars out there?

I've never been a massive fan of the Boxster spyder, it's something about the looks I'm just not that drawn to whereas I prefer the cleaner lines of the CR, each to their own I guess!
I had seen yours in the classifieds as there aren't many and it certainly looks a good example. The price ranges of the few that are out there is vast, from about 36 up to 50 which makes it difficult.
Does anyone know the one at OPC Aberdeen or Brooklands? JZM have a nice looking one too but again top money.

Thanks Boxesy, that's good to hear. You are right about the spread of prices. I always thought I would avoid OPC but there prices don't actually seem that bad.
What do you think prices will be like in say 5 years time? I know this is impossible for anyone to know and not the reason for buying but everyone likes to get something that won't plummet too much.

Thanks Tracy, that's good to hear. I'm looking for one as a fun weekend summer car so I think the CR is just what I'm looking for. I think the key spec items for me are buckets, spyder wheels, climate and pse. I'm happy to compromise on manual or PDK. I like most of the colours so not too fussy on that front. My preference would be to buy privately from another enthusiast with OPC warranty so I'm keenly keeping my eye out on the classifieds now!
Yes have noticed that they do seem to hang around quite a while. I've been actively searching for about 4 weeks and so far I think the only ones that have gone are the one at OPC Aberdeen and the one in Sterlingshire.
Not willing to compromise on my personal essential spec (buckets, spyders, climate and PSE) and I want low mileage. I plan to keep for the long term and therefore I'd rather wait 6 months than get something which isn't quite right. Don't mind manual or PDK. Favourite colour is speed yellow but that I think is never going to happen (there is one available at the moment but no climate)

Yes it's a well specced car and I have been speaking to them about it. If I'm honest black isn't my favourite colour but it does look nice with the silver wheels. As a used car buyer though I'm well aware you have to compromise and colour is probably one of those items.
Is there anyway of seeing how many are out there in different colours/spec?

Perediot would be right up there on colour choice as well. I do like the one at Brooklands, the sales chap I have been speaking to has now gone on holiday. When I was speaking to them last week I had a trade in but I don't now as I have swapped my 340 for a Mini Cooper S for everyday use and I collect that today.
Decisions, decisions. I think I'm in a good place to move fast but there is always that doubt of what will be advertised next!
