Personalised Plates - views

I'm in two minds about putting a prefix style personalised plate on my early 981c, something ending CAY as a few can be had for not too much money on the DVLA.
I just wondered what the general consensus was on such plates. A bit of fun or does it scream kn0b and attract abuse from random strangers?

I've got letter prefix personalised plates on both our BGTS and my Volvo daily drive. Never had any abuse or problems. Just a thought though rather than get a CAY plate why not get one with your name or initials? At least then you can transfer it to whatever car you get post Cayman.
Hopefully the Cayman is with me for the long haul, but it is likely to have my first name initial on the plate. To be honest at £250 probably cheaper to keep it on the car if I had to sell than the various fees. Good to hear you haven't had any problems, I've had plates stolen in the past although that was by petrol scammers. Thanks all, some interesting points of view. I like the idea of timeless plates too, particularly ones with few characters. I'm going to have a look at the next DVLA auction list and see if there is anything worth a punt. For the amount of money I'm looking to spend I don't think the plates could ever be considered investments, but should be an improvement over the existing 13 plate.

As always, some cheap/naff plates, some obscure, some very nice and tasteful, some expensive, and some potential investments. Invariably, you get what you pay for.
But take the 'guide prices' with a pinch of salt.
Really what's your experience with the guide prices? Do they have reserves? http://www.dvlaauction.co.uk/index.php/live-auctio...

Would have thought most are snapped up by websites.
RUF911P at £250 looks cheap for anyone with one.
