I recently got my first Porsche, a 981 Cayman GTS, I'm considering whether it's worth paying OPC tax on servicing to get the approved warranty or if it's better to save money by using an independent. The main concern is the gearbox (it's PDK) which is fine now, but I'm aware they're eye watering if they go.

Any experiences with them? Also does using Porsche for everything include tyres to maintain warranty?

You do not need to use Porsche to supply and fit your tyres. For the 911 I was quoted £520 by OPC for a rear when the right price on the day was £305, not nice to be taken for a mug like that frankly.

N-marked ? Some members have said recently that it's no longer a requirement, but I've yet to see it explicitly stated by Porsche GB.
Yeah it's things like that which put me off frankly. N rated I can live with as they're similar price to non-N rated anyway.

Huge thread here with all the info: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Good info in that thread, seems like you can use an Indy with the extended warranty, but you're reducing your cover for anything that is broken as a result of their work.

Well I have ~80 days to mull it over anyway as you can't cover for the first 90 days anyway.

I think the warranty is very good value for money personally given the quality of the policy. I guess it depends on how an independent prices things but parts are expensive and you don’t need much to go wrong even with an independent’s labour rates to break even…plus you’re guaranteed a loan car if you take the roadside assistance.
The warranty feels good value, it's the OPC servicing which doesn't.

Get the warranty. I purchased my first Porsche last year and was wondering whether to save on servicing by going to an independent. I spoke to a few Indies and the advice was stay with Porsche as long as you have the warranty.

You will more than get you money back with issues that will crop up. You mention PDK (not sure how old yours is). There are other issues that can pop up so it is worth the piece of mind. I phoned around to see if there are cheaper warranties out there for the coverage (after my current 2 year expires). Absolutely nothing comes close to Porsche warranty so it is worth the upfront cost.
Mine is a late 2014 car, so getting close to some of the biggies like PDK service. Next service is a cheap one I think, so there's that - could be worth getting that done and warranty at Porsche then re-evaluate when the PDK service comes up in a couple of years. Currently it has a full OPC history so getting it warrantied should be OK I think.
