Tony Maryon won the CSCC 40 minute "Future Classics" race outright yesterday beating 911s, Sierra Cosworths, a lotus Sunbeam etc etc.

Not sure that a 944 has won outright in this series before. Tony qualified second. An awesome performance I think.

There were 6 x front fours in the race (inc my 924S) and there were 2 x Porsches with engines in the "other place"! I only finished 14th, from 19th on the grid, out of 22 starters but really enjoyed my race. My 924S is one of the least powerful cars on the grid but it handled beautifully and was a real joy to drive. I just need 40 more bhp or for a few more lower power cars to join the grid!

I bet you were well chuffed with the position you achieved considering your 924 was as you say, a little under-powered, though it sounds like it did exceptionally well in the handling department.

Has any footage of this race being posted onto YouTube because it would be great to see the 944 in it's element smile
Rich, yes I was pleased, although my team mate got over taken by an 3 litre Alfa 75 with about 3 laps to go after I had stayed ahead in my stint!!! To be honest there was a bit of a gap in pace between the 5 or 6 cars at the back of the grid and the rest, and I was the quickest of that tail end group. That gap between the groups can't be helped as it depends on who enters but it would be nice if a few more cars entered in our sort of lap time racket, or maybe just slightly quicker to give us all something to chase.

I was going to look up the lap times for the brscc 924 series around Mallory but I'm not sure they race there. I am usually a similar pace to their mid pack folks and it's a reasonable benchmark as I think we have a similar power to weight.

The series that is most suitable for the 924S is the 750mc Roadsports as they have just 3 x classes based on power to weight. I am therefore in a decent size class there including loads of MX5, MR2 and BMW Compacts. At Donington back in April I started 32 on the grid (soaking wet practice!) and finished 19th after some fantastic dices with a couple of MX5s and Compacts. That was probably the most enjoyable race I have had.

The 924S handles fantastically well; probably the best balanced car I have ever driven, it's just a pity that it's virtually impossible to get a bit more power out of it, because in CSCC I'm in the same class as the S2 and can't compete with them.

Perhaps I should get an S2? Trouble is I wouldn't be able to compete with Tony Maryon, his lap speed to be second on the grid was awesome.

A 924 Turbo with an intercooler and modern engine management would also be great but I don't have the wallet for that! I think they would make fantastic Future Classic race cars if anyone had the wherewithalll!

Just found the Brscc Porsche results for their 924 race in 2010, the last time Ithey raced there, I think. Their fastest laps spread between 56.3 and 1 min 01 whilst my fastest lap was 58.6. I'd probably be in the middle of their pack, which is what I'd expect.

In Sunday's FC race, Tony qualified second with a 52.7 and in the race most of the S2s had fastest race laps in the 53s, inc Tony. The fastest lap of all was a Sierra Cosworths with a 52.2 race lap and the Sunbeam Lotus which qualified on pole with a 52.2.

Just discovered that Brett Evans also won at Mallory in an S2 in a Future Classics race in 2011 whilst at the same meeting George Muteen won in the Deutsche Marque (fore runner to Modern Classics) in an S2, too.

Great cars.

You should race in FC, again, Mark. Or maybe get the 968 out in Modern Classics?

The 968 is not that competitive in MC i heard?,lots of epic M-cars!!???
With the seat i use now, full high sided roll cage and Hans ,the pit-stop would be tricky and lose lots of time i think.
Will the pit-stop ever just be one where it is timed with Mandatory Hans coming in ?
I spend ages tightening belts and getting strapped in compared to before, not something i would like to rush or be tempted to rush.Great to hear its all going well i would love to come and watch a race at the very least to support a certain yellow 911 in FCs that used to be red!! :-)
The 968 now run in their own "Porsche Transaxle Class" for that reason so can still fight for class wins.

I'm not on the Committee anymore but with mandatory hans devices, it will be the same for everyone, so doubt the pit stop regs will change.
