924 vs. Early 944

I actually own a 924 since Feb this year, I had been looking for a 944 for a few months and went to see 5 or 6 of them but never got around to driving any of them because they were fairly shoddy looking.
Then a 924 hit my radar, it was local, in very good shape and relatively low mileage and a decent price so I bought it.

I really like it although its a bit cumbersome to drive at lower speed in terms of handling and although it is fun, it's not quick and I'd id kind of prefer my Mk1 MX5 back than keep the 924.

How much better or different is a 924 2.5 or 2.7? Do you think I should upgrade to scratch the itch?
Also, how much different is the suspension; is the handling much better?

Thanks for posting.
Perhaps I should have held out for the 'right' 944 or a good 924s.
Oh well. My car is going for an mot next week so perhaps I'll whack it in the classifieds and see what happens.
