I am surprised to see this up for sale so soon!
The uk collector was a very close friend. I saw the car when he first imported it back in the late '90's and never thought he would sell it. Until someone made him an offer he could not refuse two months ago.
Think the guy was meant to be some hedge fund owner with untold wealth looking for some special old Pork to invest in.
Either he bought it cheap enough to make a profit, he thinks the market is unstable, or maybe it is not his thing?
Would be interesting to see what JD have it up for, as they inspected the car with him originally and approved the purchase to his satisfaction.
Amazing these things can be owned for 20-30 years at a time, get pried out of cherished ownership to be bandied round on the open market within weeks, or am I being naive?
Would you be willing to say how much your fried sold it for? To me that car looks like a very long term keeper, maybe thats because I fall in love with cars and rarely fall out of love with them. This probably accounts for why I still own my first car which I have had for over 35 years now

Well prepare yourself for a shock, I plucked up the courage to call the dealer today. The price is £850,000yikes

Here is the spec:

• A one off Porsche design exercise
• The 1958 Frankfurt Auto Show Car
• Originally ordered ‘In House’ by Porsche and so likely driven by a member of the Porsche family or racing manager Huske Von Hanstein
• Campaigned by famous Porsche racing driver Richard Von Frankenberg in numerous European hill climbs and rallies
• Supplied from new with rare factory options of Coco overmats, one-off Golde sunroof with drainage bumps, headrests, wind wings, 2 opening vent windows, radio, 2 fog lamps on front bumper, sun visor mirror, electric clock, lacquered wheels and Michelin X tyres
• Owned by movie star George “Spanky” McFarland for over 25 years before being brought to the UK
• Full concours restoration to original specification retaining all rare factory options
• Two time concours winner at 356 International and also at Hedingham
• 1 of only 225 Carrera GS Coupés built
• 3 owners from new
• Full original tools and extensive history file
• FIA documents
• An incredibly rare and historic example in stunning condition

He sold it for half a mill only 8 weeks ago.
Trying to pull £350k profit seems a bit rich to me, but hey, it's a free country, good luck if they find someone with deep enough pockets.
Obviously dont know if it is the current owner or JD who are extracting urine here.
Wow!!, that is a massive hike. Every business has to make a profit but if that is pure dealer profit your mate should feel he has had is pants pulled down. Do you know if he sold it to the dealer or another buyer who has now passed it on again?

Derek having a laugh. But hey, why not?
News flash folks, I have just heard the dealer has lowered the price to £745K, so thats a £105K drop which is good to see but I still think that as much as I love this car £500k should be its top end price
