How much is a Freshly fully built 1979 SC engine worth?

The engine has 100.000 miles on it prior to the rebuild, and has been uprated with Hydraulic chain tensioners, Brand new Mahle nikasil cylinders, uprated brand new Mahle 9;8;1 pistons, Dougherty 964 grind Cams. Works perfectly, and delivers between 220-230 bhp.

Fully Documented with a huge glossy folder describing the rebuild and listing and documenting everything - Also has SSI`s and a Dansk Sports Exhaust in very nice condition which can be sold too depending on the price.
The reason Im selling it is because Im building a new engine in this car. The car is mint, and so is the engine.

A few pics from the folder.

They did a visual inspection and everything "looked" ok. Im with you though, a visual inspection really isnt enough if you want to be 100% sure . you have to split it if you want to poke around - but alas, they just did a top-end rebuild in this case.

The engine performs great though. Pulls all the way to almost 7000.

I couldnt tell you the difference between a Loaf of bread and a rocker, so Im not the right man to answer that one.
I`ve noticed that when it comes to old aircooled engines who havent been to the moon and back, what is usually offered and done is a top end rebuild.

Is this because the bottom end usually is ok? ( unless the engine has done 150.000 + miles).

Perhaps it should have been split. Well, I`ll probably be the first ever sell to state this in his own add but... Caveat Emptor hehe

Very clean engine though!

Anyway, it will arrive in Cambridge outside London in a month or two , if you know anyone needing a mint ( wink ) SC engine With 220-230 bhp and all the "low-hanging fruit Upgrades" - feel free to send me an email smile

Unknown engine? These engines are strong, splitting the case at 100k miles should not be necessary.
Anyway, if its only worth 5k I`d rather keep it I think. just the new mahle pistons and cylinders alone cost close to that.

Thanks for the feedback.

£5k at best...crazy not to have shells at the least...but hey ho...some cheap rebuilds only focus on top end..caveat emperor and all that...oil tubes OK?
Cheap rebuild? If they wanted a cheap rebuild they would use JE pistons etc... go price up the mahle parts and get back to me smile
