It's pearlescent white over navy leather with a navy hood. Not a lot I intend to change apart from the stainless sports exhaust being fitted. Just as much fun as my 997 but obviously in a slightly different gear....

I picked it up from Chesil last Thursday and drove around 490 trouble free miles including a slight detour back to Edinburgh. Not as uncomfortable to drive that distance as I had thought although I think you tend to stop more often in an older car. Comfortably sat at around 70 on the motorway and very nice to drive with the roof down on the country roads I took to Bath. Gear shift is a bit tight from standing start but I suspect that could be something to do with it being a new box, change was fine when rolling.

No more wind noise than you would expect with the hood up and completely dry when it did rain. Back in Edinburgh the cobbled streets make for a bumpy ride but otherwise not a lot of cluncking on smoother roads. Absolutely no idea about fuel consumption, I think perhaps around 75 litres did the trip. Sounds a bit like a Beetle on steroids so looking forward to having the sports exhaust fitted (see pic).

This is a car you buy for aesthetics more than performance. It will ultimately live in France and not be doing much more than 50klms up and down the coast.

For a bit of fun I would recommend one. A

Looks like you had a great trip, bizarrely I was parked in exactly the same spot outside the casino during the 2008 historic grand prix. love the look of your car and take on board what your're saying about the gear box. I've since met a really good guy who has a drag bug (0-60 in 3 seconds) as well as his day bug which is pretty quick. We are going to begin with the sports exhaust which arrived this week and then fit a set of twin port 40 webers. He is also fitting a petronix ignitor which replaces the points system. He reckons this will help acceleration a lot and we can think about the gearbox before the trip.

That's quite an outing of speedsters..... I'm getting through a list of improvements with mine also including sports exhaust, electronic ignition, twin dellorto's, deep sump and 5 stud fuchs alloys

Sports Exhaust, yes, nice idea. This is the custom S/S one that Rich at Turbo Thomas weld for me (assembled on slave engine as template):

Deep sump yes, but not the standard deep sump, use the thin EMPI thin sump, which allows you to lower the rear of the car. The other one catches Sleeping Policeman...
Electronic ignition, yes definitely.
Twin Dellorto's same as I have, great!

Nice looking speedster and very interested to hear how your new exhaust sounds. I've completed everything I intended doing for the time being but not quite convinced by my new stainless sports exhaust. New twin Dellorto's now fitted with elelectronic Petronix ignition, deep sump, performance oil breather tower, new inline fuel filters, new stainless braided fuel lines, and stainless sports exhaust system.

Yet to have it dyno tested and decide whether to go any further on the engine. Seems to have a bit more mid range torque and now sits more comfortably at 75mph. Touched about 85 but think that's pushing her a bit.

W1111AM,

Would be good to find out a bit more about what you've done to your engine as it would seem you have a similar set up albeit I haven't touched the block yet. Also interested to hear what you think about the custom exhaust.

I just had this stainless exhaust fitter for just under 1K. The electronic ignition is available from VW heritahe and costs around £240 including leads and a new coil....
