I'm looking to buy a F430 in jan for my 38th birthday present to myself, it's the result of many years of 14+ hour days almost every day, and is something I simply cannot put into words about how excited I am. I've really loved all of the posts on her about ownership and it's an amazing time that's also very scary that I'm going to part with this sort of money.

I've kind of decided an F430 F1 coupe in rosso with black leather is what I'd like and have found 2 on the classifieds here that are within budget. So what would you go for and does anyone know the cars? Ones at Hamilton Grays for £67950 and there's another with 4000 less miles and carbon brakes with Nick Cartright specialist cars at £72995.

I'd welcome peoples thoughts on them?

Thanks, Andy H

Thanks for the info SlartiF430 but is more miles than I was after, after seeing it though I need to find some seats like it has though, let me know if you ever wanted to swap some standard ones + cash?

I've heard lots of good things on Nick Cartwright, will give him a bell, only thing is the one he has shows as already being sold by him previously so will find out why it's back up for sale. I think the extra £5k is worth it for the brakes and the lower mileage, just shame its not got the sports seats too.

To me 40k+ miles isn't s big thing (especially as it has a Ferrari warranty still and the seats I want!) it's just the resale that I fear with there being so many others available with so few miles. I'd be interested in any owners who have high mileage cars and what they've required? I plan to use the car a lot, my GTR I had before was used daily at times in the summer so maybe I shouldn't be afraid of the mileage? What price are you after Slarti?

I would assume they will be 2 very different cars Mike, the GTR was perfect, the ultimate road going machine that is great when you get it, them you start to drive it and learn how it all works and it gets better and better, I did 190 at Vmax (search "190v1" on youtube) and it felt like it had so much power left as well as being totally stable, I even drifted it as 70 on the way back and it just does its thing. They really are amazing machines in every way possible however........ It's too perfect and clinical, and although has a hand built engine and all that gumf its a mass produced Japanese car that more importantly, isn't a Ferrari. Let's not forget a standard GTR laps the TG track quicker than an Enzo and technically it's a 4 seater Datsun!

Lambos, Veyrons etc are all good, but they're not the car that was on a poster on my bedroom wall as a child and as someone who is a total car fanatic I know I'm going to love the Ferrari. I doubt it'll be as fast or handle as well as the GTR, but I won't care as its an icon and I'm so excited that it's finally going to happen.

Have left messages with a few people and hoping to view some tomorrow, I have 3 I want to see and although I can do it very factually I think it'll come down to how I feel when I see them for real and learn the history of that specific car.

So much advice here, thank you all. I still haven't viewed any and is difficult already. I want a car that will lose little value and fulfils all I expect of it..........

The one at Nick Cartwright's is the highest priced I like at £73k yet comes from a respected dealer and has carbon brakes, some may see that as a negative though due to the cost on replacements and will I actually need them. It has 20000 miles and looks pretty perfect in many ways plus has the major benefit of being supplied and inspected by Nick. The thing is I want to use it and within a year may put over 3000 miles on it which may reduce its value?

There's another at Hamilton Grays, reasonably priced at £67k and has 23000 miles. Seems a good fair car to set as a price base.

Slati's asking price is very low, and although he's not a trader that offers the obvious frilly benefits when buying a car like this it's more than reflected in his asking price and the Ferrari warranty / History more than makes up for this, however the Ferrari warranty doesn't cover wear and tear where as if you bought from a dealer and a track rod end decided to fall off 10 mile down the road you could take it back and have it rectified. He also has the carbon seats which at 6'3" I'm going to need at some stage so this car makes a lot of sense to buy.

Although I want my dream car cost is a major factor here, all 3 could be perfect with no issues and if not for mileage and the re sale fears if I needed to sell it I'd take the lowest priced one which let's face it is £10000 less than the others I'm considering....... £10000! That's 2 Rolex submariners for gods sake (I don't own one by the way, just a good example!) a huge price difference yet I also feel that as this huge event in my life is so special I need to make the right decision and that all 3 are perfectly priced considering their heritage and spec / mileage.

Could someone please choose for me?!

:-)

So much great guidance here guys thanks, I don't know anyone with these cars so is good to get all the info I need off here. I'm going to have a look at Slarti's and also what looks like a great example at Hamilton Greys too next week. I may have to up my budget by another £10-20k but as already stated the more you spend the more you lose.

I think the main point is this, if I'm buying the car for me I want to put miles on it and enjoy it so buy one that I won't lose loads on thats lesser priced, whereas if I want an investment I should buy a low miles one and not use it at all, and if I do worry what each mile I drive is depreciating it by. I want the car for me, the investment is at the back of my thoughts. I think I'm looking too deep in to all the price v mileage thing as cars are worth what someone will pay so I need to get out there and buy one! :-)

I think the £8k trader mark up is about right and pretty fair. Can you negotiate sale price with dealers? I was lucky that I sold the GTR for pretty much what I paid for it and had it on the company accounts for a year too!

Say you're looking at an £80k car with no faults and recently checked over what can you realistically offer / buy it for or is it a case of that's the price?

I spose I don't have a budget, but at the same time don't want to pay twice as much for a Scud when there's deals out there like Slarti's. Have even been tempted by a black on in the classifieds that's amazingly spec'd and just requires a £4k respray in red..... Or is that not done?

Quick update........ I've put a deposit down on the one at Hamilton Greys, stunning car and perfectly presented plus great service from them, had an independent inspection done at Shiltek and it has some tiny issues (ball joint play and mirror not working) that are being rectified then it's all mine. Still haven't really accepted in my head that in just over a week I'll be the owner of a Ferrari F430 though, I can't wait for that "moment" to happen when it all sinks in. Thanks for the advice over the last few pages too, it's helped a lot even though I bought the first car I saw and almost decided it was mine the second I saw it.
