I have a 360 Spider at the moment, owned it for 4 years and I do love it but now seriously considering a 599.

They seem pretty good value at the moment (as much as £100k can be called value)

What are the major issues to look out for with these, I'd be looking at a 5 year old car?

thanks

I have recently gone through the same process, looked at 430, 599, and Gallardo.
ended up buying the Gallardo LP as it was the only car that gave the wow factor.
I really fancied the V12 and at around 75-80 level I dont think you can go wrong to be honest, I looked at a few and the build quality and materials used seem to be in a different league to the other models.
In my research I didnt come up with any negatives other than the normal ball joint issues and stuff.
TFC (who must be local to you)do well with 599's and have a couple currently, the black 10k one is actually the owners, the other 28k from memory car looks value but not seen that car as it only came in last week, red interior car was mint with low miles.
Thanks.

Where/Who are TFC please.

Simply awesome cars!!!

Had mine 4 months and every trip is an event.

Always positively received and lots of friendly comments / thumbs up from onlookers.

Big (huge) and yes technically heavy, but having looked at 5 no. F430s and driven two, one drive in a 599 confirmed to me it's the one to have (unless you're a track day warrior perhaps??). More steering feel, definitely faster in a straight line and such a great place to be.

The noise is amazing, even with standard exhaust.

If I won the lottery it would be my daily drive.

There are some tatty examples out there, even at franchised dealerships so if it doesn't look like new, go look at another!! Even the disc brake bolts are shinny on my 08 model (9,400 miles and 18% clutch and brake wear)

Best car I've had (996 GT3, V10 R8, R500, etc)

Track rod ends and ball joints were the things to be expectant of, test every button and switch too.

Check clutch and brake wear at last service.

As said, most aren't serviced annually (should be) but some may only do a couple of hundred miles some years so skip a service. Took me a while to accept this was typical after years of owning German cars.

It appears price is very interior colour sensitive - avoid tan and grey ? I have rosso, would never have considered it based on photos but you need to see it in the flesh, gorgeous, and black with black was just too bland.

Mileage costs 0.5 - 1.0% per thousand, say £750 per extra 1,000 on the clock.

Age say £5 k per year???

Some prices are rising, some are dropping (tan interiors!!).

Red and creme appears popular as always on Ferraris, but I'm not a fan personally as it makes the car look as big as it actually is (did I mention, huge).

Sat nav useless, full electric Daytona leather seats, extended leather and monolithic wheels very popular. Wing shields essential.

It's thirsty for sure but everything else makes that irrelevant, it's the only car I haven't bothered to work out the mpg for !!

I doubt you'd regret it, go try one - a gentleman's supercar rather than a boy racers toy??

PM me for anything further - check the size of your garage it's like parking up a 4 foot tall range rover.

An appreciating future classic V12 ??? I'll let you know :-)
Thanks for the info.

And tranter5's post confirms the tightness in the garage.

I love the colour of the grey 599 on autotrader and as you say, wheels can change the look of the car.

What exhaust options are there?

Thanks for all the replies.

I think realistically I will go down the dealer route as I'd PX my 360 and try to get the cost to change as sharp as possible.

I only put 2000 miles a year on my Ferrari so if I took a six year old one on with 25,000 miles and kept it for two years it'd still be under 30,000 so not too much of an issue.

I'll get in the swing of 2015 and make some more serious enquiries I think.

There's a black one originally owned by Eric Clapton. Is that just a talking point or does it add more?
