OK ...... I know it's an unpaid and time consuming job moving stuff around ...
but sometimes there are things that seem perfectly acceptable in General Gassing that then get moved by a Mod to (hopefully) get a more detailed answer when a general answer was obviously all that was required.

But the flip side to this are threads such as in 'Aston Martin' with the title 'Polishing mops'?
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I didn't know polishing mops were exclusive to Astons - I thought they could be used on any make or model? I thought they fell into the world of 'detailing' and were used on 'bodywork'.

And behold .... in the technical section there is a 'Bodywork and detailing' thread!

It happens over and over again EG 'How much get my xxxxx resprayed?' 'Talk to me about getting this scratch on my xxxx repaired' 'Where can I get touch-up paint for my xxxxx' 'What polish should I use on my xxxxx' 'Can I clay my xxxxx' etc, etc, etc, etc.
None of these questions really qualify to be in make or model specific thread - but they are specifically about 'Bodywork and detailing'
But they never get moved??????

Just saying ........

Exactly my point ..... mops are to do with detailing - whether it be on an Aston or VW - and should therefore have been moved.
If I owned an Aston and asked fellow Aston owners for help about my tooth ache I wouldn't expect it to stay there just because we all happen to own Astons - I'd fully expect it to be moved to 'health matters'
Yet a general question about mopping - something that is not uniquely nor expertly done by just Aston owners - stays in the Aston thread?

Ok - I think I've got it .....
The detailing and bodywork section isn't for getting advice about detailing or bodywork because anybody can ask those questions in their own marque section.
It's just there for the people who feel the need to say 'I polished a car today' or 'I repaired some bodywork today'.

I can understand specific mechanical questions about specific marques remaining in that particular marques thread - perfectly sensible.
It's the very general paint/polishing/bodywork/cleaning remaining there - I still can't get my head round it.
It's all well and good you saying it's like asking your mates - but as I said earlier if I was an Aston owner and asked my fellow Aston owning mates on the Aston forum for advice about my tooth ache it would without doubt get moved to health matters.
The same thing of being able to ask your Aston mates and/or ask in health matters wouldn't apply.

Anyway we could carry this on and on and on - and I do appreciate that trying to move every thread that wasn't marque specific to a more general forum would become a never ending 24-7 365 days a year job for a team of people.
