Mods can we leave this here just temporary - I know it's gonna get moved to website feedback but can it stay here for just a couple of days.

This forum for me is damn near unusable without adblocking or similar just wondered how many users are in the same boat or if there are others that don't find it an issue at all

I wanted to persist allowing PH to run ads initially, but since IE freezes for 4-5s every time I load a page - while 800 different ad libraries load in - I've started blocking ads.
If PH ads were less intrusive I'd turn it off..
I installed Adblock as a result of PH's ad activities I'd never used or felt I needed to use one before - it's (Adblock) default settings blocked other forum adverts so on all other forum I have allowed unblocked them all - except PH. I can tolerate sensible ads that are not intrusive but this place has gone way further than any other forum I use

Jesus wept, I've been using ABP/Ghostery for years and I just disabled both and reloaded this thread

The ads were bad enough, but Ghostery was blocking 49, yes FORTY NINE, different tracking methods used to try and sell me stuff - more than I've seen on any other site I've checked...

Back on now, sorry PH but the ads are shockingly clunky and the tracking stuff is just scary
Agreed

I use PH on laptop at work on IE & chrome, previously an Iphone 5 with safari, now a galaxy s6 edge with their standard browser and a galaxy tab using chrome and have never seen a single intrusive advert.
Agreed, me neither.

The problem is more likely the browser is infected with malware, adware.
Something doesn't add up.......

Until I read this thread, I never used an adblocker or similar software - I guess I got a little out of date re. current software etc.

But - I have just installed Chrome with Ublock Origin and it's wonderful. The internet is back to normal.

Thanks to this thread!
It's very refreshing isn't it - question is what poll option box did you tick biggrin

Well this thread was in general gassing - I asked for it not to get moved to website feedback but it got moved to the lounge instead

I've long held a view that if a poll gets started on PH then pretty much best number of responses you can get is around 500 if the thread stays in GG

so 350 (ish) I reckon that's probably reflective of

a) the 1% rule in effect here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%25_rule_(Internet_...

b) the fact it got it's ass kicked out of General Gassing and into the long grass here biggrin

Good job it didn't get put in Website Feedback as that's where threads go to die wink

Bollicks it's now in website feedback - thanks everyone for your comments so far and it's reached over 400 who have responded to the poll but it'll not get many more now - this is where threads come to die!!!!

biggrin

Background (for those that find this thread for the first time - you either found it on a search or you need to get out more)

So it started in General Gassing - got moved to the lounge - FFS really chaps - really?

Thanks to a friendly Moderator for moving it from the Lounge back to General gassing where at least it had a chance of getting a reasonable level of response but now it's gonna quietly sink into the background

Surely this is a feedback thread though? Users don't like ads and are finding ways to avoid seeing them. It may fall on deaf ears (seemingly nothing has changed since I left HM 9 months ago, I wonder if people in the office still have ad blockers installed hehe, now that does speak volumes) but it's feedback so this probably is the most appropriate place for it.
It's also one of the lowest activity areas (apart from some of the specific marque areas)

And whilst it might be the appropriate place for it - it's never going to get a representative response from the forum users if I'd started it in her in the first place.....

Folks - dont' forget this survey.
Once it got banished to website feedback it was never gonna crack 500 responses.

Nice bump mind to remind new users that they don't have to suffer the ads
