There is frequent moaning on here about a certain type of aggressive, unhelpful, keyboard warrior, bullying etc etc poster thesedays. It seems to be causing decent members to be lost forever and for too many threads to descend into unpleasantness. Surely this isn't the way the owners want this to go, is it? Eventually it will be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, revenue will drop and the site will close or become a shadow of it's former self.

Whilst we have moderators they cannot be expected to clamp down on the sheer volume of this sort of behaviour. I'm suggesting a system be introduced where a member can be reported for said type of behaviour and then if a moderator agrees then the person receives a strike. Hopefully the folks receiving strikes will think about their behaviour and posting style and either refrain from posting their toxic drivel or will disappear. I'd suggest something like 3 strikes and you get an official warning, 5 strikes you get banned for a week, 7 strikes for a month and if you are stupid enough to get 10 you get permanently banned.

Perhaps the Lounge could be exempt as banter there is pretty impressive sometimes and does make me laugh a lot.

I realise that this might take up a bit of manpower in the early stages but in the end it should become more self regulating as these folk realise they can no longer get away with it. Hopefully the end result will be a more user friendly site that continues long into the future.

and if a mod thinks this deserves a wider airing how about moving it to the lounge for a bit??

Take Croyde's thread on the debt collectors. Plenty more.

TheLordJohn said:
He didn't really help himself, to be fair. Some of his posts were laughable.

Although some posters could be seen as rude/aggressive etc I don't think over-moderation is the right way to go.
We already soften every other part of society; if you can't take a bit of st from a stranger on the internet and shrug it off, I don't think a moderator banning them is going to help you out.
I think a thicker skin is required a lot of the time and there'd be much less problems.
Everyone jumps to be offended at the earliest opportunity and play the victim card.
That's a perfectly valid opinion and I'm not seeking over moderation and not at all in the Lounge. Not seeking to stifle debate or differing opinions just there are a determined few who seem to love to be offensive etc at every opportunity. We can honestly do without them.

I'm going to bow out here not because I'm offended or anything but just to allow others to have their say.

It's a bit of a shame that this thread seems to have descended into a debate largely about religion with lots of he said, she said, they said along with a degree of mod bashing (though mods may well have learned a thing or two about certain posters). Not sure who introduced religion to the discussion and I'm not really sure I care enough to go back and look but whilst it has been interesting debate at timesthe initial thread was supposed to be about the minority of aggressive unhelpful etc posters that continually post stupid remarks that spoil things for the majority and how to deal with them. It seems running to teacher is frowned upon and perhaps mods don't have the time or inclination to deal with the type of behaviour I'm seeing regularly.

Whilst ignoring such posts is relatively easy it doesn't sort the issue and probably encourages them to continue their antics. If you allow a child (or a dog for that matter) to misbehave without correction they will get worse (just look at the plethora of the Supernanny/Dog whisperer type programs on TV) so if we allow this to go unchecked it will be to the detriment of these fora.

Can anyone come up with a workable solution?

And we are back to religion...Again!

Those who want to argue about whatever religion or aetheism is their bugbear can you just bugger off and start your own thread. Please can we stick to the original topic? I enjoy this site and I'd like to see it continue but I fear for the future.
