UPDATE
If you want something quicker then this method will work really quickly

Simplest way of all..............

  • Go to www.tinypic.com
  • Click the browse button where it says File to locate the image on your PC.
  • When located, and showing in the File box, hit the "Upload Now" button.
  • When it says "File successfully uploaded" you'll see four boxes with http addresses.
  • Just click your mouse on the address in the "IMG Code..." box. This will copy the address.
  • When you have the PH Reply box open, just click your mouse when you want the image placed, and then go to Edit > Paste and that address will be there.
  • Click the preview to make sure it is right pic, and then submit.
  • Takes about 30 seconds!
If that still doesn't work then post on this thread for specific help or read below for other methods:

To post a picture on PistonHeads it must be hosted somewhere publicly accessible on the internet and you need to know it's webaddress (also called its URL)

If it is a picture which is saved on your own computer you will first need to have it hosted somewhere on the internet. There are several ways to do this but the easiest is to register for a free image hosting site such as:

Flickr
ImgPlace
ImageShack
Picasa Web Albums
Photobucket

Once the image is hosted on the internet (or if it is an image you found on the internet) you will need to find the URL. Most of image hosting sites will have this information somewhere on the page with your picture but if the page the image is on doesn't have this information then it can be found by following the steps below:

1. Right click on the image
2. Click "Properties"
3. The URL will be displayed in the box that pops up (The "Location" in Firefox, or the "Address (URL)" in Internet Explorer)

Now that you have the URL, it is time to add the image to your post. First, copy and paste the complete URL into your post. Next you need to add two "tags", one before and one after the URL, exactly as shown below:

[pic]url[/pic]
e.g. [pic]http://www.pistonheads.com/images/logo.jpg[/pic]

Assuming you have done everything correctly, the picture will now appear in you post when you preview or submit it.

Like this:

If you are having problems, make sure the tags are exactly as shown above, including the "/" at the start of the second tag and using square brackets, and that the URL is correct (test if it works when copied into the address bar of your internet browser).

Ok I FN give up rage

So I go to my Profile, then to my Garage, Get to the bit where you write up a bit about your car. Then below that it says add Pic. I host the pics on www.webshots.com (no problem there) then cut and paste link to photo in box! I update my profile then have a look to see if the pic has come up! Still no pic banghead I have tried various combinations of [img] or [IMG] or [PIC] or [pic], None seem to work for me? I dont have a problem with posting up pics on the forum pages, but this Garage / Profile thing is driving me NUTS banghead
As that box is expecting an image, you don't need any tags, just the direct link to the image for example: http://www.pistonheads.com/pics/members/68474-car....

If you are still having problems then post the link here and I'll troubleshoot for you!

You need to get rid of the spaces, like this:

Assuming it's the same as the full site, hit "Share This" then "Grab the HTML/BBCode" then finally click the "BBCode" option.

Copy and paste the [img] bit of the code that appears in the box and it should work

Hi, can anyone advise me how to upload a picture into my garage area? I have uploaded a picture to thumbsnaps and then tried the various types of sharing option addresses, cut and pasted into the box that asks for a picture URL. I have also tried to link to my Flickr account to no avail. Guess i am doing something quite simple wrong, but am struggling to work out what....computers aren't really my thing. I have managed to upload pictures into the general forum areas but this is baffling me.
Thanks in advance!
The picture URL box wants just the URL of the image, it doesn't need any [img] tags or anything else around it, just the bit starting http;// and ending .jpg

If you want to include more in the description, then these will need [img] or [thumb] tags.

Hi
The good news is that I managed to post some pictures on my garage section to enter the Subaru comp that is running, but the bad news is I could only post one pic for each review I done. I used photbucket and got the direct link to work, how do I post another pic to each of my reviews in my garage as ever time I select another pic I end up deleting the first one??
Thanks
Matt
There are detailed instructions in the competition thread, but the short version is that you need to put them in the description using [pic] tags, the same way as you would include them in a forum post.
