I have to admit being a lurker on here for quite some time. But delighted to be able to join the the McLaren family. Now have the terrible job of actually choosing the spec. My thanks to Steve at McLaren Ascot. Great bloke.

congratulations! What swayed into the mclaren over obvious other rivals? I'm sure it will be awesome
Good question. On balance I like the direction McLaren is headed and the car is stunning to drive. The natural alternative (to my eyes) was a used 458. Great car though that is, I preferred the 570S. The chassis is so fluent and it's a cracking interior.

Thanks Rich.

I've driven the 458 a fair bit and love it. I like the rarity of the 570 and it's a brilliantly executed bit of kit. The Spider is out next year! It was my wife who really liked the car and given the cost, I'm pretty lucky that she was as up for it as me. We won't get our car until early 2017 so plenty of time to save. In the meantime I can enjoy my '68 Charger.

Defies all logic? Nope.

570s and 650S are both current production models.
So if he were to chose a NEW car he would take the 570S. Why? He drove the 12C which is close(r) to the 650s, its the same but just better in what its supposed to do.
So per his logic he doesnt want the experience of the 12C and therefore the 650S... he likes the 570S.

I dont understand the aggressive nature of your comment, let the man be.

I don't spec until October and will do a factory visit beforehand. Current plan is luxury and security packs plus sports exhaust. Avoiding any external carbon. Biggest issue is colour. Instinct is something bright like yellow, orange or even green. But having seen a 650s in fire black, and despite convincing myself to never buy a black car, I can't help but think it would look amazing. Especially with orange calipers, orange seat belts and orange contrast stitching!

I'm tempted by yellow and would love to see one in the flesh. Suspect this will be the colour we go for. Ascot have a few build slots in September (or they did). But as we're moving house thought we'd postpone to next available build slot. When we found out this was January, we opted for 1/3/17 as delivery day. Long wait but gives me time to "rationalise" my fleet. And save some cash!

That's a great colour combination. Have to say I'm warming to the dark grey per the car on test in this month's CAR. But can't bring myself to get yet another grey car. Subject to seeing one in the flesh, pretty certain it will be Volcano Yellow. Or Fire Black. Or Vermillion Red. Or maybe McLaren Orange. Aw s**t.

Pics please! Great spec by the way. Were you not tempted by security and luxury packs? Don't seem bad value to me compared to individual items.

I locked down spec on a GT yesterday (placed order at Geneva). Will arrive end of July - one of the first ones.

The bright colours do all look good, and I was close to ordering in Vermillion red, but in the end have gone for blade silver, as I want something (relatively..) low profile to use most days,

I don't think the configurator images are very life-like, especially the interiors, so I went to factory and to dealer to look at everything 'in the flesh'. First reviews should be in mags within the next few weeks - I hope they are as good as the S ones!
Congrats. I was tempted by the GT. It's a cracking looking car.

Know what you mean about the configurator. Colour wise it's pretty basic and offers a limited range compared to the actual colour choices available. Like you, we're doing the factory visit before deciding on final spec and colour. Can't wait!

I finally did the deed and spec'd my car on Saturday. Colour was hardest choice. Very nearly swapped to Ventura Orange but in the end we ordered:

Volcano yellow
Black leather interior with yellow contrast stitching
Yellow calipers
Stealth finish wheels, exhaust and badge set
Luxury pack
Security pack
Sports exhaust
Carbon interior pack

Due early Feb for collection 1 March. Cannot wait!

Now that is a great looking car! The yellow is pretty special in the "flesh" but doesn't seem to photo well other than in good sunlight.

Out of interest, why the palladium roof?
