Hi guys

Just a quick question: im looking to buy a SLR and need to sort PPI.
So it seems MercedesBenz does the maintenance on these car only.

Ive already contacted MB and they suggested the 3 following locations:
MB Chelsea, Stratford and Templefortune.

Im not sure if I should ask advice from the MB section or Mclaren section as well, so ill just do both:
Does anyone have any experience with any of the above or perhaps knows a better place for a PPI??

Thanks

By PPI, do you mean a 'Pre Purchase Inspection' in which case are you not better getting that done 'before' you buy it?... Just saying!
Im sorry, im in retard mode due to the ENDLESS waiting on the phone to arrange a PPI.

I meant to say: I need to decide IF I really want to purchase this car AND manage to agree on the price. It seems we are getting close...
But youre absolutely right, I intend to pay a small deposit and pending the PPI will decide to buy the car.
PPI is the best thing you can do, managed to save me from a 911 with turned back odometer once smile

Thanks for the help so far, going to try to reach Brooklands again...need to call through 3 assistants before reaching a specific mechanic and then he doesnt answer....

Thanks guys.

So far no luck: always end up talking to two front-desk girls to be connected to the right person and no-one is at their desk to answer.
Had to leave for business abroad, so put it on hold for a day.
Will try again tomorrow.

Im after a "normal"roadster, Im too poor for a 722 frown

Will update if I get anything out of Brooklangs, have a trip planned to London 10-12th August so hope to have everything sorted so I can be there for the PPI at that time.
Wish me luck....

Steven Perrett is the guy whom I spoke to, he is arranging the PPI.
Yes I am aware of the ludacris pricing on these cars, therefore Im buying a car that has had a big service done recently and shall be setting a different V8 engine on fire tonight as an offer to the low-maintenance car gods in the hope of their good fortune.

Guys
Can you please for the love of god, stop scaring the living sh*t out of me with these prices...
As far as im concerned I have been extremely lucky so far with my cars and I dont see any reason why this one should be any different..so lets please leave it at that haha.

@Stain: youve owned an SLR by any chance?
What has your experience been like?

MSO do an exhaust mod for the SLR, last time I saw their demonstrator it had it on & sounded like thunder of the gods.
Ah cool. When was this? Anywhere I can find out more about that mod? Any idea on pricing etc?
I know that the exhaust on the SLR weigh a LOT and the car needs a bit more umph in the sound department, but then again i think almost all stock cars require that.

The car had a B-service in january with a service bill of over 7k sterling and 2 more services , so the signs bode well.
But I get your point, lets see what the PPI reveals.

Anyway know what a Roadster with 13k miles bottomed out on in the last 2-3 years?

Ok, I found 200k GBP as bottom-out price in my search so yours is not too far off.
If I only knew back then frown

Im getting a bit scared now to be honest. Lot of horror-stories.
Ill ask Steven to do an extended drive to make sure it also feels right.

Below some pics of the car being inspected on paint thickness. If someone notices this car or anything weird about it please let me know...

You'd have to say it's consistent. I don't know what's correct for these. A lesser car might only be under 200 microns thick, like my Porsche, for example.
I dont know if its true and will ask Brooklands, but ive been told that SLRs have a thicker paint due to the carbon exterior. Will verify this, so it can be helpful for the next person looking to get an SLR.

@WCZ: 722 would be ideal indeed, but those things have shot up in price like a rocket.... a "normal"roadster is a relative bargain to a 722 roadster, theyre like double the price or more??

Steve vetted the car, saying it was a very clean example. Needed some minor work with tyre pressure sensors and wheels and fuel filter which will be sorted.

Happy new SLR Roadster owner! smile
