Is LPG an acceptable alternative fuel source in this forum. I ask as I am amazed that more people do not LPG their cars.

Its 68 pence per litre at my nearest station and at that price I'm saving about £1300 per year in fuel costs on my 2.4 S80. I took it one a 4000 mile tour through Italy in the summer and the fuel savings paid for the second weeks hotel bill.

I'm an avid LPG fan, are there any other on here?

Cheers,

Tony

Filled the car up at my local BP site today ( 70.9 ppl) only to be informed that they were running a LPG promotion whereby every time you filled up with more than 30 litres of lpg, they give you a culmulative 1 ppl off your next fill up using a loyalty card scheme.

The very helpful cashier then stamped my new loyalty card and told me had had already applied the 1 pence discount to my first fill.......thus it was charged at 69.9 ppl. Thats a 48 pence saving for doing sfa.

The next time I buy 30 litres or more I'll get another 1 ppl off, the third 2ppl off. the fourth time 3ppl off until I hit 10ppl off, whereupon I go back to the beginning.

He then asked if I had a nectar card. "Its double Nectar points on LPG" he told me as he swiped my Nectar card.

At this rate BP will soon be paying me to fill up the car.....

How many times do petrol and diesel buyers exit a filling station with quite the sense of smugness I felt today?

Cheers,

Tony

Just have to share the smugness and feeling of welbeing.

LPG at 64.9 ppl at my local BP site.

An additional 10 ppl discount loyalty card.

Double nectar points.

I'm 55 and I don't remember ever buying fuel this cheap.

I love LPG.

Cheers,

Tony

Just finished converting the Mrs gas guzzling Cadillac to LPG so a 3.6 litre 255bhp V6 is now doing the cost equivalent of 50 plus mpg .

I'm buying LPG at an average of 60ppl at the moment and we too are off to the Italian lakes in a couple of weeks time so will be screaming down there in the Caddy with the AC on full blast not caring a jot about the price of fuel or consumption levels.

Its amazing how liberating it is to not have to worry about fuel costs. I reckon changing the Mr's Skoda to the Caddy will still give her an annual fuel cost saving of £750 on her commute and she gets a 155bhp increase in power for the Traffic Light Grand Prix.

Cheers,

Tony

Just got back from our Italian Lakes trip and having done 2343 miles we used 532 litres of gas at an average of 62.3 pence per litre (this includes the rip-off swiss motorway service areas at 95 Euro cents per litre).

The average fuel consumption on gas was 20.19 mpg for a fully loaded Caddy 3.6 v6 and I was certainly not hanging about cruising at 85 to 90 mph in France, slightly less in Switzerland and just under the ton in Italy. This also included a few mountain passes which seem to drain the tank for very little distance covered.

I reckon that over the 532 litres of fuel we used we saved about £330 by using LPG rather than petrol....... a very useful saving when a Gondola in Venice is 80 Euros for a half an hour paddle through stagnant water.

One tip I would pass on is that LPG or GPL as its known "over there" can be a bit scarce away from big towns in Italy and, unlike any other European country, has to be served by an attendant which means there's no LPG whatsoever on on self service sites.

This in turn means that it is very difficult to get any on Sundays unless you are travelling on the motorway network, as most small sites go to operating self service note and credit card machines on Sundays.

Cheers,

Tony

Bought a tankful of LPG for the Caddy this week, paid 49.9 pence per litre at our local BP site as we had a full discount card for 10 ppl off and the price had just gone down to 59.9 ppl.

Just have to convert the daughter's Alfa 2 litre T spark ( I have all the bits bar the tank already) and the whole family will be "cooking on gas".

Cheers,

Tony

This isn't at the BP garage just south of Reading by any chance is it? My last fill up went below 50p per litre too biggrin Certainly a great feeling.
Looking on the fillLPG site, there are some garages in Birmingham selling for below 40p!
Nope this one is in Aldridge and is now down to 54.9 which means that with a loyalty card my average price will be 49.9 and go as low as 44.9 ppl thats 32.04 per gallon. I'm getting about 24 mpg out of the Volvo which gives me a lowest cost of 8.5 pence per mile in fuel.

The Volvo, which was a £1054 purchase some 30k miles ago, and is maintained by me, is used mainly for business and I'm claiming the IR agreed amounts.... 45 pence per mile up to 12k pa iirc. Just 25 pence thereafter.

I have now perfected the smug smile when departing from the forecourt.

Cheers,

Tony
