I love the idea of an i8, in fact I think I've convinced myself to buy a used one in the next 6 months as their values seem to have taken a big hit in the last year. Why is that? I was talking to a main dealers mater tech the other day and he said they are just not selling any, new or used and he had 4 new cars in stock.

Have new I8 sales really fallen off a cliff? Are people concerned that the current version will be very out of date as soon as the next iteration is launched?

As a potential buyer and the originator of this thread, that is spot on....

As the OP of this thread, I thought I'd give an update. I actually bought a 2015 i8 in October and i have to say, I'm absolutely loving it. No other car has come close to the ability of this. It seems to do everything well and looks sensational. It's far more of a drivers car than I thought it would be, so much so that I recently sold my Caterham and Twisted Defender as was no longer using them.

Genuine MPG overall is 56MPG and that's a mixture of short local electric mode only journeys and good blats. It's by far the best car I've had as a toy and think they now represent incredible value.

Since buying mine last year, values for mint low mileage examples don't seem to be reducing much at all now.

Absolutely spot on. I also bought an i8 having come from real sports cars such as high powered Caterhams, Eagle E Type, TVR, Aeromax etc. I'd never go back now as the i8 seems to be brilliantly competent on so many levels and I just love driving the thing.

I read a similar article a month or so back, so it's quite possibly going to happen. If it does, I would imagine i8 values will level out and even increase in the long term. It;s such a dynamic and revolutionary car and add in its rarity and usability, it'll be a sure fire classic.

FeelingLucky's response is spot on I think.

I've had my i8 for just under two years and come from a background of performance cars. The I8 isn't the fastest, most dynamic or best sounding car I've had BUT it IS the one that I don't plan to sell because it's just so dammed usable in the real world.

It has supercar looks, is genuinely quick, handles well and yet I average 55mpg, costs zero VED and is a joy to own and drive.

No need to avoid at all.

Engine is basic and battery is small, so won't be expensive if the worse happens. It's a stunning car and a real bargain at the moment, so fill ya boots!

Bmw Renewal of warranty is circa £850.

It's managed by Allianz and unlike most warranty companies, they pay out on a valid claim so total peace of mind.

Currently, the extended warranty excludes the main battery as has been said, because it is covered from the factory. It is my understanding that hen the factory warranty expires, the extended warranty will be upgraded to include the main battery in the future.
