I need to get hold of a new radio for my racing needs. (mainly Le Mans) Currently I have a cheap Carrefour own branded jobbie which I use with noise cancelling earphones. Problem is reception can be patchy especially around Le Mans, with the signal particularly bad around the Final Chicane area.

I thought I'd get hold of one before the Silverstone WEC next month. Are there any good all-in-one radios that would do away with wires that could also be heard above the noise of the cars? I'm especially good at getting in a tangled mess with earphones, radio lanyard, ticket, camera lanyards and rucksack straps. If not it needs to be as small as possible and powerful enough to pick up Radio Le Mans around the track without having to constantly re-tune.

Failing that, this stylish chap I saw a couple of years ago may just have the answer!

Thanks in advance!!

Have you considered radio ear defenders? Looking at them myself but have no idea which ones are any good...
I have been considering those but always felt a bit worried that I would look like a knob. If they work though, they may just be worth it. No idea which ones to get though.

Thanks for the info.

DS240, could you tell me what model you have please? I'm beginning to go towards ear defender types.

Out of interest, are there any good wireless headphones that have an FM radio in them? If I can use them for things other than racing, such as watching TV, I may be able to justify spending a little more.

Well I finally caved in and bought a pair of Peltor FM ear defenders. They weren't cheap £80 but I know that if I didnt get them, come Le Mans this June I'd be wishing I had.

Sat here at my desk listening to the radio I nearly didnt hear my phone ringing! My colleagues are giving me funny looks too!
