We are trying a new route this year as we normally do Portsmouth/Caen or Poole/Cherbourg. We arrive in St Malo friday morning at around 8am and we are looking to avoid motorways so I've come up with, as it looks the obvious way, St Malo and cutting south east down towards Fourgeres along N12 to Ernee, Mayenne and on down into Le Mans.

Anyone tried this route or is there a better more fun/scenic route for a group of TVR's and a couple of Nobles.

Hi Griffgray.
That sounds like a useful convoy and great fun. We have been doing the St Malo Le Mans run for a fair few years and do it this way.
Get out of St M on the Rennes road heading south, then turn left eastbound on the N176. Just past Dol de B turn right on the D155 to Fougeres. Take it easy on the N road as you will be over excited and there may be Gendarmes about! Once on the D roads you should be ok to to wind it up a bit.

At Fougeres you can either go down the N12, or choose a parallel D road, but arrive at Mayenne and then take the D35 to Sille le Guillaume. Then get on the D5 to Beaumont sur Sarthe. The square in Beaumont sits astride the main souther d road for the boys coming down from some of the bigger channel ports. We call it Beaumont Poser Square. Great place to have a cold drink and wave at the sports cars heading south.

We are on the same route a couple of hours behind you in a few 911s and Caymans.
Have a good run.
Cheers

We chose St Malo route mainly because ferry times seemed a lot more civilised but also good to have a change and really appreciate your input and sounds like we might have some fun. Will have a closer look at your route later on the map.

Thanks again
