I need to order some new bulbs for another car and I thought I might as well get some better ones for the M400 at the same time.

Having searched previous posts I'm still unsure of the definite answer as to which type I need (and the manual might be wrong). Does anyone know for certain if they are H4 or H7?

chillidog, I just ordered H7 Osram Silverstar's from :

www.powerbulbs.co.uk

They are very quick on delivery. Mines came next day. You also get a free set of Philips Blue Vision w5w sidelights. On receiving them I have been given another 10% off my next order too.

Thanks for the tip. That's actually where I purchased the last set for the Audi (which blew a bulb this morning, so I'm looking for the recipt to see if they're less than 12 months old).

So what's an improvement on the standard H7 bulbs?

On the Audi I fitted the Philips Vision Plus which allowed me to see a lot further on dipped beam without dazzling oncoming drivers.

If I can simply fit similar bulbs to the M400 without messing up the alignment, which is now pretty good (thanks to Kerridges), then I'd hope to get the same sort of improvement. Maybe it'll give the beam a better spread because on really tight bends I can't see around the corners that well (the beam spread isn't wide enough).

Also, didn't Joust suggest rasing the beam level up a little - maybe that's all that's neeeded?

Maybe, although I think Kerridges have got it about right. As I've got to order some replacement bulbs anyway for the other car I can save a bit on postage by buying them together.

I'll give it a try esp. as I've already got the black sealant from the last time I fiddled around with the corroded rear light connections.

ps. The M400 lights are actually fairly good, it's just that I do a fair bit of country night driving and good lights are high up on the list of things that make driving safer.
