I thought it could be good to compile a thread recording if you've had wing corrosion, and if so what year and mileage did you experience this?

It seems that most affected models for wing corrosion are earlier cars. The question is whether this is simply because they are older with more miles, more stone chips etc in vulnerable areas, or is it due to production of the earlier models?

If it is the former, I wonder whether a form of PPF in these vulnerable is an easy solution.

I believe it has been updated with a plastic clip for joining the wing/bumper rather than metal. Hopefully replacing the clip will prevent it and save everyone the time.

Weather permitting I'll be doing some work and will check the car I'm driving this weekend.

I'm not sure, I have however checked the 73 plate built in March 23 which I'm driving and it looks like I have plastic screws with metal clips.

Good idea, what was the size of the nut/bolt you used? Did you replace all four corners?

Thanks Julian.

There has been cases of corrosion on front and rear arches, and there will be similar fixings for the front wing/bumper so seems worth doing.

It can't hurt to replace the metal clips, however I'm of the thought that it could also be caused by impact chips and dirt gathering between the wings and bumper, which would explain why the front of some cars has the same issue despite having no metal clips. I only wash my car once every couple of months, so try to remember give the bumper/wing joins a quick spray with the hose on full to blast away any dirt.

Anyway, good work. Now get out and drive it. wink
