I'm looking to purchase some suspension for my GT40 project, the manufacturer are selling the AVO shocks for around £700.00 but I have been quoted £550.00 for a set of Gaz golds, both sets are 2" shocks with 2 1/4" springs. Obviously there s a price difference but s there a difference in quality? I don't want to save a couple of hundred quid and regret it later!

Any thoughts?

Are the cheaper ones setup for the car you are building?
They are exactly the same as in :

X2 15" open, 10" closed with spherical bearings 2" shocks
X2 2 1/4" springs rated at 350lb
X2 14" open, 9 1/2" closed with poly bushes 2" shocks
X2 2 1/4" springs rated at 275lb.

So yes unless I'm missing something?

If you want the best, call these guys. The best improvement I ever made to my car was splashing out on top quality dampers.

Sadly budget is key hence my post, I'm building my dream car but on a budget frown in years to come a lot of bits will get upgraded I'm sure but initial costs need to be kept sensible, but as I said I don't want to save £200.00 and end up with crap handling...

Sorry,lazy post.

I ran Avos on my Fury,as did most of the RGB grid. Personally, I've always thought of Gaz as the budget
Cheers , points noted thumbup

No probs.
I would have thought the budget in a GT40 build would allow for Ohlins/Penske/similar though ?

Not sure Id go for the lower end of the market in a good GT40....
As I said above, "building my dream car but on an budget". I will happily accept donations but failing that shocks and springs need to come in <£700.00! I am spending my money on things that can't be swapped at a later date with relative ease. I'm still looking at throwing well north of 35k at it and for me that is a fk load of money....

The valving is important as well - needs to be set up for the car and the intended use ideally.
That is exactly what I was referring to. It is what you can't always see that can be more important.
Great, thanks. That what's exactly the sort of info I was after, looks like I will go with the AVO's.

Cheers

Holy thread resurrection Batman...

Well I gave just ordered a set of these, though obviously being made and valved for a GT40 not a Caterham as per the link, I just couldn't bring myself to fit the AVO's or Gaz.

They are sooo pretty biggrin

They are stunning, never heard of the company though.
Hope they work well for you
Cheers, they are a local company to me and being able to got to the workshop, meet the staff, see and feel the product is everything to me, I fact I would pay a premium for that that alone. The product is all made in house, fully rebuildable and upgradable and only 25mins from my front door do a no brainer really...
I did actually buy a set of steel AVO's but the moment I held them in my hand I knew they were not going on the car, these shocks are truly a beautiful work of art and reputably top notch bit of kit, which I have no doubt will out perform my ability, I can't wait to receive and get them fitted. driving

Here's a link about them...
