Hello!
Im in the final steps of building my kit car (Built from 0)
Im from Spain and here it will be very difficult to register.
So my plan is to go to the UK and get it IVA tested and registered.
The problem is that I dont know if I can do this without being an UK resident.
I have a friend there, I can talk with him so he can register it on his name and then when its registered change it to my name and keep it with uk plates (I dont have any problem to go there to get the MOT done every year).
Is this possible?
Thanks.

Hi
I'm not sure about that. You will have to insure the car in the UK. So will only have 90 days insurance cover abroad (?). And the UK making the crazy decision to keep annual mot tests means returning a very year, not every other year.

Why not register it in in Spain - is it just yyhe v cost. In France it's around 2,000 - 3,000 euros. That's probably better than going to the UK.

Good luck.
Hello, its impossible to register it here.

Whatttttt .....

OK your remark may have been in error. You can make a car and register it in any EU country.
The UK has kept the EU regulations regarding cars. However as the UK is not in the EU you (one) cannot automatically register it in another EU country without undergoing the IVA inspection.

Here is the link to the French government website.

Let me know if you want more information.

Yes, in Spain its impossible, no matters what you do, I have been informed by the authorities, ITV, engineers ... You cant even cut the original body lines of a car. I have been informed that the same happens in Portugal and Poland. In Poland you need to register the car in the UK first and then re register it in Poland, there's a post in this forum about this. Not sure about France or Germany but I think its the same. In Spain you can only register a home made car / kit car if its over 30 years old, then you can import it as a classic.

Hi, common problem unfortunately. It can be registered in Italy, and either transferred inter EU to Spain, or leave it on the Italian plates and drive it in Spain. There is a legal mechanism for this, slightly complex but do-able.
That would be very interesting, can you help me with the registration there? Thanks.

Here is a copy of the latest Spanish IVA legislation -
Looks to my like anyone can build a car and register it in spain.
Just needs to pass the same tests as anywhere else in the EU.

CAPÍTULO IX
HOMOLOGACIONES DE VEHÍCULO INDIVIDUAL
Artículo 44
Homologaciones de vehículo individual UE
1. Los Estados miembros concederán la homologación de vehículo individual UE a los vehículos que cumplan los
requisitos del anexo II, parte I, apéndice 2, o, en el caso de vehículos especiales, del anexo II, parte III.

Here is a quick link I found from a spanish company. Dont know if it helps.

Good Luck
You cant. I have been looking into this for years, its Impossible. The only way to register a new replica or kit car in Spain is by doing a residency change, thats what people usually do, stay in the UK for one year and get the residency and then reimport it to Spain as a residency change, but now with the Brexit thats very difficult.
The "homologacion unitaria" is an homologation that people do for vehicles that dont come from the UE (American cars for example) or are modified but you cant import any vehicle that have a custom chassis, or modified chassis, custom exhaust ... You cant even import a car with a non original hood. All modifications needs to have European homologation type E1.
The only way to import a kit car to Spain is to import as a historic vehicle (the car need to have +30 years and being correctly registered) or doing a residency change.
