I've had loads of kitcars over the years -most recently a Seight - I would like a Jaguar C or D type replica but I can't justify the £50k+

What's a similar kit that I should search for ?

Front engine, RWD with ideally a 6 or 8 cylinder engine - must be a driver's car not a cruiser

I don't want a cobra nor a re-bodied Z3, I thought about buying another Griffith but I prefer the look of older cars

Thanks

Yes - the Z3 isn't a great drivers car and I find it's engines dull too

I've been googling and found the Formosa based on a scimitar which is more to my tastes although the Ford V6 isn't great

The DBR1 / Replicar is another and I love MX5s but I'd want a better engine - like a Rocketeer V6

I'd rather have something older though

The 1.9 is crap; the 6 cylinder engines are brilliant. Mine handles better than most things on the road & I actually prefer it to my 911.
I find them unexciting

I've had 328, 330, 330 supercharged and currently have a 325Ti as everyone said they were more fun - still doesn't do it for me

I think more aggressive cams and a lightweight flywheel might transform them but I'm unwilling to gamble £1k in case it doesn't

£27k for a Ford Cortina based kit that I'd assume needs an IVA - he's on drugs !

That's one of the £50k cars that I can't justify - particularly when my dad used to buy and sell them for around half that

Thanks but a Marcos doesn't do it for me either

I want the old-fashioned looks with a decent engine

The MEV replicar, formosa etc are available at sensible prices - I don't see why adding a £2K engine should add 25k to the price

I'm happy to modify, finish building or wait. I just need to know what to search for and I'm sure there's more options out there

More that the market has gone mad

You can still buy a decent Cerbera for £25k or a rebodied ford cortina for the same price - makes absolutely no sense to me

One of dad's cars I'm still sorting out is an xk140 convertible with a fiberglass body

I'm told that's worth 55k and in the next breath I'm told a kit car is worth the same confused

A convertible cerbera would be nice

My conclusion is you get hurt feelings when people don't like what you like

Been having a Google - this would have done - BMW 2.5 straight 6 - not perfect but not a bad compromise and with budget left to tinker with the engine
