Paul and co, I know what you mean, but I'm not against taking the looks of one car and applying it to another.

What I am against, though, is spending c. 20k to pay for a 406 to be turned into a 360. Apparently, that's roughly how much it would be - how can anyone justify buying a 406 for say 6k, then spending 20k tarting it up???

I'll save my 26k and either get another TVR, or go for a Corvette or Plymouth Prowler which I've been looking at!

but the practical side of me like the idea of 4 seats and/or useful boot.

Personally, I'm just after the practicality, and running costs, of a 406, but the styling of the 360 - a family 'Ferrari' (at least they're both pininfarina designed cars!).

Does not compute: Logic error.

lol... I meant I thought you could get one of the 'replicas' for c. 10k, all in, and have the styling of one car but the practicality of another.

For 26k I'll buy something fun and hold onto my 5-series for the practical side. Looking at the cost, if i was going to merge 4 seaters with styling, I'd probably go for a Cerbera... if I didn't think it would break down on me all the time.

Are all these replicas that expensive? I thought the whole point of a copy was that it was going to be cheap, not just less than the original.

If they cost this much, why do people bother? (Am only talking about panel/body-replicas here, not proper kit/custom cars). I'm surprised there's a market for it.

For £26k you can get a genuine, reasonable 328 or a 308. The geniuine article, with the right engine in the right place and no need to be ashamed Cheaper Ferrari's are also available if you need 4 seats like the 400 or the other one, can't remember its name, the odd looking one usually for £10k-£20k.

Thanks for the advice Busa_Rush ... not sure about delving into classic cars. Was really just exploring this side of the car industry before buying. I think I'll stick to more contemporary stuff and stop trying to be overly, errr, 'creative' with my choices.
