Quite a few of you guys here asked on a restyling project for the Libra, and it would have looked like, so here is one of the many alternative sketches I did based on the Libra chassis.

I used the Spyder chassis because it gave me more freedom with the roofline, but it should work also with the coupe.........

I think it looks a tiny bit Smart Roadster at the back in the first sketch. I like it - the original Libra is quite a hard act to follow.
I agree with you, the original is a tough act to follow........but this is only one of the may sketches I have.......will post the others later.

Also more than a hint of Lamborghini about it in places...

Beyond that, the first thing that strikes me is that it has a very short overhang at the back. It makes for an dramatic silhouette, but do you need that area for anything? Aerodynamic considerations? Crash protection? Luggage space? Just a thought (I'm trying to be more constructive than in my previous comments smile)

Looks good though!
In realty I've always designed cars with very short overhangs, and have being doing so since the early 90's...

I just think that we need more compact sportscars in the future, but this sketch is an exact overlay of a GTM picture, so it would keep the original luggage space.

I have to say that I don't like the new designs.

I think that there is a big market for a retro style coupe car that take in a mix of the Ginetta G4, the Opel GT (Especially the rear) and the Lotus Elite. Small, light weight and quick with a 150-200bhp ford unit. A boot that will allow you to take enough stuff to tour for a week in Europe. Priced at upto £ 20k built
I also have a design with your parameters in mind, but GTM doesn't have at the moment a similar chassis to work with.

I think a similar car exhists, and that is the Mx5.....or the classic Ginetta G20...

I know you like it, Italo, but have you put a touch of Midas in the rear wheelarch/three quarters area.

Or am I mistaken?
I actually did, in fact that was my idea to take the shape of the classic Midas and update it over the GTM Libra chassis.......

But this was only one of the sketches, I have lots more to show......smile

Looking at the sketches, it's good to see that at least someone is looking at designing!! There are so many kits out there that look as though they've been thought out using a straight edge.. Lots of time is taken on the chassis and drive train but when it comes to making things look good , in my opinion, people just don't think about aesthetics which is after all why most people buy something.. Good forward thinking and good sketches, lets start seeing some more good looking cars.. Well done...
Thanks robotvillage.....smile

Completely agree! These, and the ones in CKC, are really nice designs. I hope GTM do something with them Italo, on a restyled Libra or a new car smile .
Thanks Adrian........I'm trying, but who knows......smile

I like it, possibly a tiny bit over-wheeled. Its a shame the current Libra is so ugly beacuse otherwise it would be the ideal kit car.
How dare you! eek

Is there a better looking original design Kit car?
Not that many but that is the biggest problem with the kit car industry.

However since you ask!

its not really an everyday proposition though, like the libra/spyder can be
I agree with you, as nice as the slc might look, it's just a weekend toy........the libra can be an everyday proposition, and very few kits can claim that.....

I like the clear panel doors with the bar through the middle (maybe its reminding me of the door bars on a Crossblade biggrin ).
That was exactly the idea, a door bar to protect from side intrusions, and clear polycarbonate glass, for more visibility......smile
