Anyone know the percentage of oxygen in the air ?

So do I!!! Lots of fond memories .

Those Bulldogs were brilliant little cars – weren’t they. On the road for few bucks, technically basic but went like the clappers (once the overheating was fixed). Easy build.

Of all the kit cars I produced the early Bulldogs are still tops for me.

Did you know that it was 18 years ago? Lots of water under the bridge.

Next issue of Kit Car has a feature on rolling road tuning of engines in which 02 levels are said to be 10%. Didn’t sound right to me

I’m a vampire slayer, not a chemist!

I’ve just had a word with Buffy, a chemist friend of mine.

She reckons CH4 (Methane) plus 2 x O2 = CO2 plus 2 x H20, so twice as much Oxygen required (as you said), not counting the napalm and the incineration of the body.

Anyway, who said I wanted a complete incineration?

Dante’s inferno would be quite acceptable . Eternal burning but no death !

After that amusing detour, all I wanted to know was what percentage of Oxygen goes into an engine to compare with the percentage that comes out of a) a properly maintained exhaust system and b) one with a leak.

All in the interests of ensuring that an article in the next Kit Car (about engine tuning, needle valve settings, etc) is technically accurate. Well there’s a first time for everything.
