I currently own a 1.8 VVC Libra and am tempted by a Fisher Fury as I would like something a bit more track orientated.. with my age I'm not too bothered about practicality, but can you get hard/rag tops for them? For those who own/have owned/driven one, would you reccomend bike engined or car engined and if anyone has driven a Libra and a Fury, how do they compare?

Also if anyone has any pros and cons they can think of... reasons for buying and reasons for not buying etc that would be helpful!

My mind is by no means made up but some info would be greatly appreciated!

Fury is looking like the best option then, well or a pheonix. Fundemental point I forgot to ask... I'm about 6ft2/3, will I fit in one?

I will agree with the Phoenix being tight on the passenger side. I had a sit in Furyblade_Lees car at Laon last year and it was such a tight fit I couldn't get my hand down to reach the 5th harness.

The Fury fits like a glove, with the seat bolted to the floor my head is below the windscreen. If I took the seat out there would be plenty of room width wise. Im 6'2" and about 18.5st. TBH you need to try one as some people are longer in the leg, and some in the back.

Big Dean has moved his pedal box further back and this gives a nicer driving position. (my pedals are top hung not floor mounted so this mod will have to wait).
Are you big Dave then? Lol. I probably wouldn't have that problem weighing in at a good 5 stone less! But the leg length could be as issue... thanks for the advice!

I'm back to being undecided again!

Drooling over that yellow cossie Fury but price is a bit steep! Well not steep for what it is I guess, just steep for me!

Having had a go in Ruari Coles's Cosworth Fury Spyder (300+bhp in a 600kg car) even I would think twice before I bought that! Fearsome torque,we were doing a genuine 140 in some supidlyshort amount of time. Made my Furyblade seem slow! He also worked at MIRA, and legend has it the Fury went through the speed trap there at 165...
Are you saying it was TOO FAST?!?!?!

That is quite a find, but I've got to be honest, I don't think a Fury is for me..and even so I'm not looking for a project, or wasn't. It's a shame too, because even though that car is part assembled, really it needs stripping again and all the metalwork blasting and painting cos it's been stood so long. Obviously do able but won't be a 5 minute thing.

I went to look at a Fury the other day, barely fit in it and my head was way higher than the screen and roll bar, dunno how 'big dave' copes!!

Back to this thread again! I was crashed into and am unsure what is happening with the libra. I'm amazed big dave fits so well!! Then again the fury I sat (and got stuck) in was adapted to fit a small and much more trim man!

Im Big Dean and before i lost weight to be 17 stone, i was 19 stone 12, apart from needing Stronger springs i had no problems fitting in the fury, although now i have done away with the screen its much better.

I am in East Grinstead, if you ever want a ride in a car engined fury, or want to try it for size let me know.

Deano
Should have updated this, taken the plunge for a R1 Fury.
Tried two on for size since the first one and they both fitted like a glove. The first one had the pedal box moved back by the owner as he was about 5ft5!

Thanks for the offer though smile

It's all about personal preference. I love the buzzy, noisy, raw bike engined feel. But can completely understand why some (pansies) wouldn't. As far as I know the R1 is pretty robust, a few do the alps tour 3500miles in 10 days - yearly, I'm planning on going next year and my car has already been once faultlessly. The sump is low, but tbh I don't worry about it, I just make sure I drive over bumps thus lifting the whole car over and lifting the sump away from the ground. Again, personal preference..never liked the le mans bonnet. But each to their own. TBH you probably need a ride out in a few types to compare. The blade won't be much better on the sump I don't think, plus it's an older carbed motor with 30hp less, assuming you mean a 900cbr. I've got to say it can be a tiring car to drive, but in a rewarding way. I'm not sure how much patience I'd have if I was 40 odd years old, but for now I love it. I joined the R1 forum, with questions of longevity of bike engines...theres lads on there with 100k miles on their R1s! Only thing I try and go easy on is the gearbox but tbh it's so low geared and with such small wheels it won't be under as much stress as you think.

Well not hard enough but being tolerant enough to such a raw experience for a long stint. It is all about personal preference. Either can be suitable for your needs.... It depends what your needs are, and I don't mean miles, comfort etc.. Needs in terms of which you find more enjoyable and how much you could put up with it.

It's likely that you'll get pretty hooked on the bike engine experience, it's then up to you to decide how much of it you can take, if that makes sense.

Also.. Just to add, don't make too many snap judgements about them until you drive one. I did that, thinking I'd need a busa or zx14 to have enough torque etc etc. It's surprising how much pull my R1 has, it's not nothing nothing nothing waaaaaaa power! It's pretty progressive, like a surge. Best for you like you say is to get some rides out. I'd offer but you're miles away!

Not heard of this low sump problem on bike engines??? I have had a 'blade and an R1 since 2002 and never had a problem. They deal with country lanes / speed humps / ferries 100%, mine is at least 4" clear of the road.

Mines probably no more than 50mm off the floor

That's a situation that needs attention then.
Its more than 50mm thinking about it. But not a lot more. But it's gone 3 years without being ripped off so im not going to start messing with it now. Will fit a sump guard though, but not messing with engine mounts. The people who designed it should be more knowledgeable than me. 13 inch wheels probably don't help.
