tvr grantura help needed

hello. i am new here, yesterday appears a tvr grantura in my way, there is one that need soo much work.
I have some cuestions because i don't know to buy it.
The first one, the chassis number, i see five numbers? its that ok?
the other cuestions are if its difficult to find pieces,
what model will be this one,
and how you see the restoration, its possible??
the car is at spain, and is left hand drive.
don't have a lot of pieces, back window, windows, lights...

but the first problem, its the serial number, the chassis number complete, maybe i dont have any posibility to know were was the plate of the car, i am triing to know if the car was registered in spain, the number is not so clear, someone knows the secuence

It looks very genuine in all fairness no one would go to that much bother to fake a restoration project like that IMOP But good to do as much research as possible try contacting the TVRCC Club as Richard Sales who is in charge of the club historic records may be able to help what documents does the seller have with the car as the more you have the better once restored a real find and great to see cars appearing like this

It looks like an interesting project....plenty of work to do
Based on the info received from Spain, the VIN 18/0xx , reveals a later car ( 66/67) 1800s mk IV
However, the dashboaed configuration looks like a mk III model ( with the vin sqtarting with 65/5/......). Nevertheless, I have seen some mkIV examples ( also on the register) that do have a mk3 dash and viceversa.
Have a good look at the difficult to source parts ( if available) such as, rain gutters, door frames, door hinges and lock mechanisms, lock barrel, etc.....the rest is easy

thanks, today i know if they accept my offer, if the offer is accepted take the car to home and start, i am going to do a lot of cuestions hehe, if i buy it i will contact with the person you said and for all of you i will ask for information, mounting schematics and that information,

To maybe help you with the chassis number, according to the books I've read, if the number is 18/026 or lower then it would probably have left the factory badged as a Grantura 1800S (also known sometimes as a 'Grantura MkIII 1800S').i think this one is 180XX but maybe 190XX
Conversely, if the number is 18/045 or higher then it would probably have been a Grantura MkIV 1800S.
If the chassis number is 18/027 to 18/044 then it could be either as the chassis numbers for the two models were intermingled for a while.
I have a record of 18/005, 18/006, 18/008, 18/010 being last known of in Spain so I wonder if it might be one of those.
Incidentally, just in case you were thinking about ever racing a Grantura in FIA Appendix K events, it is apparently quite possible that the 1800S chassis will soon be outlawed for such events.

Not really for this thread but what I've heard is that the FIA have recently had it pointed out to them that TVR slightly modified the Grantura MkIII chassis for production of the Grantura 1800S, the Kamm-tailed version in late 1964. They did this to allow them to use a common chassis to build both Granturas and Griffiths. By making the top engine rails run parallel rather than tapering toward the bulkhead they created more space to allow the Griffith's V8 engine to fit and they also carried out some slight repositioning/reshaping of some other tubes to allow them to get the gearbox in and provide adequate strength. These modifications and what gave rise to them are documented on page 175 of Peter Filby's 2010 book "TVR : The Early Years".do you have more info on this?

No changes were made to any of the suspension pickup points or the position of the wheels, as compared to the standard Grantura MkIII chassis. However, I have heard that the FIA bods may decide that the chassis change constitutes a material enough difference to prevent the future issue of HTPs for the Kamm-tailed cars.
The problem for many existing round-tailed Grantura MkIII racers might prove to be that until very recently the only available replacement chassis for those with irreparable crash damage has been the 1800S version, due to a single source situation. Thus, many existing round-tailed Grantura MkIII race cars have been built around what is actually the 1800S chassis. Of course, having a valid FIA-issued HTP is not actually required for many of the popular race series currently favoured by Grantura racers and so it may not be an issue for many of them.
