well the 3000s that i have just bought has a Piper 270/2 and a 40 DFI carb with inlet manifold to match.
It also has stainless exhaust manifolds and full stainless system.
Engine fully balanced and Acralite pistons.
The question is, what sort of power (bhp) do you think i can expect.
Can someone give me an idea!!

the heads have steel seats for unleaded and the rockers are the roller type "Yella Terra".
I imagine the heads have been flowed.
The car once belonged to "Mike Palmer" who was in the TVR Club ond took it to "Le Mans" in 2002, i have a photo of the car on the circuit.

i am English from Pompey and just decided to retire in Brittany.
I am sure the 3000S will have enough grunt to show some of my French friends driving Austin Healey 3000 what a true British Sportscar can do ha ha ha.
I will scan the photo from Le Mans and post it soon

Adrian,
the Weber 40 DFI carb was part of the Ford X pack option

hi Andrew, here's a shot of the seats OE but very dirty.
Imho i find it very strange and difficult to understand that Ford with their megga resouces got it wrong with the X Pack and the Weber 40 DFI

Adrian,
i agree with you, so what is the best set up with a piper 270/2 cam with a weber 40 DFI or is it better to change the carb

surely it is possible for me to jet the Weber 40 DFI correctly to suit the Piper 270/2.
imho the choice of cam and carb is a personal choice.
I also have a Lotus Elan Sprint + a Lotus Elan Plus 2S130 and both have Dellorto carbs and run very well but some people prefer Weber 40 dcoe.
You pay your money and take your choice

maybe some of the 3000S exported to the USA have been converted to run on Holley carbs.
It would be interresting to hear from some specialist from the other side of the Pond.
My engine was reduilt and fully balanced by Burton about 2000 miles ago.
Looking at the bills it was done in July 1999 at a cost then of £2,278 pounds.

Adrian,
please excuse me i made a big mistake about the carb on my 3000S.
I removed the k and N filter and discovered the carb is after all a DGAS.
I had gone by an advert typed out for the car by a previous owner, which stated the carb is a weber 40 dfi.
So i am pleased that i was wrong.
For the rebuild of the engine by Burton, i can trust this because i have all the receipts for that.
I am on a very steep Learning curve with TVR's at the moment ha ha

Frank,
refresh my memory, is "Double Duck" a woven fabric or is it a sort of plastic Hood.
If it is a woven fabric you could use a product on it like for waterproofing tents.

well just to refresh my first mail and to update what i have discovered on my 3000S.
In the end the engine was rebuilt with parts from Burton as follows:
1.Rebored 3,212 miles ago
2. fully balanced
3.line honed mains
4. valve seats recut 3 angles
5. Burton camshaft VA19 fitted
6. high pressure oil pump fitted
7. dgas carb retained
8.JP full stainless exhaust system
A few questions for the experts:
1.I Wonder with the Pirana electronic ignition what would be a good starting point for the advance.
2.What would be a good starting point for the Jets in the dgas carb, maybe a bigger main jet or look at plug colour
thanks Alan

thanks Frank,
i will check to see the advance i have at the moment on tickover because it seems to run well but this is my first Essex engine and i'm still Learning.
I'll check colour of plugs and also see what jets have been fittedin the dgas carb.
The thing is i'm a little in the dark because the owner that had the work done died 10 years ago. So i am finding some différences with what the owner's widow believes was done and the reality. The reciepts from Burton for engine machining, balancing, camshaft Burton VA19 1500-6000rpm lift .386" duration 292° are dated october 1999 speedo 71,976 miles. Now the speedo is 75,188miles so engine has done 3,212 since rebuid.
Just run incool
Alan
