Hey everyone,

I recently acquired a '71 2500 (1872T) that was originally purchased in 71 in England and shipped here in 74. I noticed a decal I have yet to see on any TVR's over the past 20 years. I had a 69 S2 that didn't have it, my dad had the first 2500M built in 72 which didn't have it as well as our 65 Griffith 200 does not have it.

I've tried looking through pictures and have yet to see it anywhere...

It's located (on my car) inside the passenger door towards the front windscreen. It says "IMPORTANT NEGATIVE EARTH SEE HANDBOOK"

Here is a picture of it, i dont have a close up one yet.

Sticker

Either way i'm not sure many people know that this decal even existed.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the input.

I have seen the stickers on the Sprites / MG / Triumph but have yet to find this exact sticker.

This particular TVR has the stock radio, maybe that's why it has a sticker? Not sure how many TVR's had radios or not. I have the original Sales sheet of the car, and the Color is considered "Aquatic Jade" which was made from i believe 68 - 70 on the Ford Cortina. I would actually like to figure out how many 2500's were painted in the aquatic jade. The 2500M had a similar color but it was darker called Sherwood Green i believe.

It has less than 28,000 original miles everything on the car is 100% original, even has the tires from 1971 and original spare tire. Obviously the whole car needs to be delved into...but man it is absolutely gorgeous in the state it's in after sitting for so long. The car has a great story behind it and it was awesome hearing it from the original owner.

Anyways, i'm in the process of re-making this sticker since I cannot find the exact one. So if people have interest in it i'll have some available. I work for a marketing company so my printers are helping me sort out an exact replica. I'll keep my original sealed up but use the new one when i re-do the car.

Yep, mine DID have one (2018T). But peeled it of to reveal its original colour so I could get a decent match. I did it 20 years ago when I did not think keeping the sticker would be a good idea.
71 2500.
Steve,

I'm in the process of re-making these right now, so when i'm done i'll make sure i get you one. I'm just glad to see that you've seen it as well as i'm sure most owner's have never seen it since by the time they get their cars it's gone.

I just looked at your 2018T and it's gorgeous! Well done! The one other thing i've noticed that no-one seems to be doing is where you have Vixen on the back, mine shows that it was a small 2500, i've only seen them with vixen as well.

  • shrug* tvr always did things different per car as well so i wouldn't put it past them to have some one way and others the other way smile
P.S. I'm not nit-picking your car, I just geek out about small stuff like this that most people overlook and I want to make sure I'm collecting the right information or providing the right info to others smile

Just out of interest (obvs. nothing to do with Trevs) but my Dad ran a Mk. 1 Escort from new in 1972 through to 1993.

That had a sticker on the inner wing under the bonnet which said 'Warning! Positive Earth!'

Weird to think that he was running a Positive-earth dynamo powered vehicle right through until 1993...bless him!
Ahh the things we go through for cars smile

I've not got any stickers on the back of mine yet as I've never found what should be where. Another job to do.
If you look at the tail end of my car in the link i put up above, you can see where the stickers were on the tail end.

My car also had the same size 2500 on the lower front rocker panels..not the big 2500 that the M cars have.

I would love to see pictures. They did things different per car sometimes based on what was on the shelves hehe. jeremyrgunn@hotmail.com
