There has already been a discussion about whether I keep my original Sprint bonnet on my Grantura Mk2a or not but if I were to change it for an original bonnet I felt that I would need to replace the front quarter bumpers as these had been cut to fit the shape of the Sprint bonnet. I have since been informed that the front quarters can be repaired back into the correct shape by probably a decent metalwork shop.

While I was debating about the bonnet, and after a lot of searching on the internet, I managed to find a person who had a NOS complete set of original Grantura bumpers but would not separate the fronts from the rears and would only sell as a complete set. They have never been fitted to a car but have sat on a shelf for all of these years gathering dust. I decided as these are so rare I would buy them, they were definitely not cheap. If I do replace the bonnet then I now have a choice of either having the ones on the car repaired and putting back on or fitting the new ones. I am sure that the new bumpers will polish up very nice if I put in a little bit of elbow grease on them.

I may cast a few sets of these. Purely to stop idiots making shed loads of money. I have a spare set and the moulding process is very simple even allowing for a 5% shrinkage.
D.
Good idea but you could buy my 100% genuine ones for £400. Not quite a shed load of money for me unfortunately..

Why buy old when new cast can be made with better quality alloy for half that cost??
Originality springs to mind for one. The die hard enthusiasts want genuine parts and nothing but genuine will do.
I appreciate what you are saying about cost and materials. I am sure you will sell a few sets as well.
If you do decide to go this route I hope everything goes well for you.

Has anyone ever had these made as Dollyman seems to have dissapeared would be really interesting if someone could cast some of these
A
Could it be that Dollyman was having a pop at me because I had just bought a nos set of these bumpers or was it just a coincidence that his post coincided with mine. I hope that he does make a few sets of these as it will definitely help out a few members on here I am sure.

I will be taking delivery of my new (well quite old TVR) that will also have the early quarter bumpers on it this coming Friday so if required I could lend someone a set of these quarter bumpers to use for casting but only if they know what they are doing with this type of work of course. smile

Thanks
Steve

I am sure you will just make sure its not related to Dolly first

I have absolutely no idea what you mean about "related to Dolly" confused

I simply offered up a set of bumpers if someone wanted to use them as a cast but you seem to want to ignore that fact.

Over the last 35+ years barely a week has gone by without a phone call ( remember them?) asking if I had any corner bumpers. About 15 years ago I spent a LOT of time convincing a reputable local foundry it would be worth their while making the castings -------4 of them and all totally different. After making the quality moulds in the next 7 years I still got a call a week wanting bumpers. In that 7 years I sold 3 bumpers and 1 of those came back because the clown who ordered it found it wouldn't fit. He had ordered a n/s front and thought it would fit the o/s rear. These were £40 each. The foundry scrapped the moulds.

It's easy to burst onto these forums in a blaze of noise but sometimes there are people here who have got the t shirt and not necessarily a pure new wool one.
Wise words and it makes a lot of sense......No substitute for having experience when dealing with members on forums. Perhaps we should listen a lot more to those in the know.

Oh dear.. You have totally the wrong car my friend. The car that I have just bought is NOT a Grantura 1800s laugh That car just didn't seem to add up when you really looked into it, especially when I spoke to someone who knew the car and gave me an honest opinion of it and anyway it was far too much work for me. That is why I sold my Grantura Mk 2a after I had a quote for £9k for a respray and a few other jobs.
That is the reason I sold it, and the only reason even though you seem to think otherwise.
My new TVR is up together, motd etc and I can now spend time on getting it just how I want it without any real major expenditure, hopefully.
