Rallycross

Watched the Croft round on Eurosport after a collegue was talking about rallycross when we were discussing the downfall of formula 1.
Holy crap the supercars class was insane!
Can someone in the know explain the class rules for the different classes, is it a case of anything goes with the exception of engine displacement? Retros had a front engined beetle, there was a rwd corsa, lotuses (lotii?) racing with minis.. and again those supercars were the modern incarnation of group b surely
Annoyingly I can't make it to Lydden next weekend as I have to do anniversary things instead. Boo.
