Not being controversial, just asking a very straight forward question.

Looking at the times from Mallory for the 4.0 litre V8 class C cars, it's seems like the old lap record was bettered by more than 2.5 seconds, a life time at a circuit as short as Mallory.

Does this make Class C V6s a waste of time for anyone that wants to compete in the class?

If I was racing I'd want to compete, and it would be in a V6 engined car (cod that's what I have) so as you say, question seems to answered. Thank you. smile

John, unless you have a st load more power, torque and much better handling you don't have much of a hope against the Chims. Plus, they were supposed to be a road car with a rollage. They are not. They are all race cars which I believe haven't been built in the spirit of the regs.
Be interesting to see, conditions being equal, what they lap oulton in Dave.

Why not john some are out to have a good time not out to get the win just to enjoy
Ivor

I don't think John has a Tasmin!!

Maureen/Mrs Hui
Correct Maureen, I have a 40 odd year old 3000M wink

Ivor, I go racing (if memory serves cos it's been an age) it's to get a buzz. To get a chance at class win has to be the aim - if you're competing rather than just taking part. Overall win in either series I have run probably not possible...with me at the wheel (although we have had a 5th overall in future classics).

If I enjoy some decent wheel to wheel racing, that will do very nicely thanks smile

A Tasmin won't do that for me with the current crop of class C cars in DTEC, nor would my old M.

I expect these current V8s, in decent conditions, will be lapping Oulton in the 1.55s which is 5 seconds off what I could do in my car before it was rebuilt, and it was a lap record for the class for some time, but even with the car's weight loss and some extra grunt, I doubt I would be able to compete or run wheel to wheel.

My point really was that the road car based V8s were brought in to give a boost to grids, and I wondered if the regs are such that they have replaced rather than supplemented the V6 cars so neutral impact on grid size.

As a foot note, if I had no car and was looking to go racing, I would be building a Chim and be looking forward to playing in a busy class - no doubt at all, but I have a car that I will run in CSCC - which is where I was pre-rebuild and where I can have great fun with what I have.

So back to the first response on the topic, I think I have my answer. smile

Controversial, to say the least.
Not really Crackerjack, as long as all the cars are built to the same spec, not necessarily the regs, and they are all equal, which they clearly are, then it makes no odds. The V6s don't really have much of a chance against them so I doubt you will see one of those competing in this series again.
And that was my thought train Dave. Was that he intention - probably only JR knows the answer..

Morning Maureen

I think Ivor ment a V6 not a body style. As I posted plenty of people just want to compete not necessary after a win.
Exactly that Perry
And it will be piloted by a very capable driver will be interesting what times he posts
If he's capable he'll be faster than I ever was Ivor smile

My best was 2.00.717 in 2009 on a coldish cloudy day.

I guess if anyone wants to see if a particular car is competitive they can call JR and get on the grid at Oulton and find out ? We've had guest drivers and cars join for the final round in the past so a one-race entry isn't an issue.
I'm not sure anyone wanted to see if a particular car was competitive Joolz, more an engine size and configuration thing.

I have 3 nice tuscans for sale John, all competitive, will do you a good deal or a swap for your 3000m if you fancy it
That's very kind Tim, but I need to finish mine first and when I do I intend to keep it.

If I bought another car unless it was a fresh build with everything as new, it would be stripped for rebuild anyway and I'm getting too old for that (OCD knows no age limits apparently smile )

I've still not written off a guest outing with the DTEC chaps next year just to gauge if the combination of me and the M is competitive against some of the V8 car driver combos, but no real desire to return to the series.

Thought I would have been out at Donington this year but it was 6 months too early...

Well there was at times no V6 cars competing, and the uptake of the 4.0 cars seems to be growing and some good close racing, so can only be good for the series. also with the new A+ class, its makes the speed difference smaller also.
Maybe a class C and a C+ (or a C and D as Geoff suggested)
