Mazda MX-5 art car for Race of Remembrance

Mission Motorsport to race in a new 1.5-litre MX-5 and doesn't it look brilliant?!

Having competed at the first Race of Remembrance last year (and taken the 1,600cc Cup in fact), PH is a strong supporter of Mission Motorsport's annual Anglesey enduro.

This year it takes on a new format as the race distance hits 1,000km. The lights will go out at 1600h on Saturday afternoon, with the cars racing until 1900h that evening. On Sunday the race will resume at 0900h, stop for a memorial service at 1045h and continue until the 1530h finish.

However, far more interesting than that is the MX-5 art car designed by Mission Motorsport and to be raced by two of the charity's beneficiaries. The poppy livery is simple enough to understand, the #101 race number relating to this year's anniversary of WWI beginning. The car has been provided by Mazda and is the first Mk4 1.5 racer in the UK. Make your jokes now about it struggling up the hill towards Rocket...

Mission Motorsport CEO Jim Cameron said: "Mazda's support of this fantastic event is incredible. Race of Remembrance has fast become an institution - and we are very excited to be building the first 1.5 Mk4 MX-5 racecar in the UK." Alongside this car, another 13 MX-5s will race at Anglesey, ranging from Mk1s right up to a new 2.0-litre Mk4.

The Mission Motorsport team will be 40-strong at Race of Remembrance this year, with 10 racers including Steve McCulley, Matt's teammate from last year. Around the race there will also be supercars on display, fireworks and a Formula 1 demo. If you can make it to Anglesey - easier said than done, granted - the whole weekend comes heartily recommended.

My immediate thought was " A Japanese car? When Japan still hasn't acknowledged or apologised for its treatment of soldiers during WW2" Am I wrong?
