Nurburgring 24 Hour Event

Has anyone ever been to this? Looking at going this year and wondered if anyone has any tips? Been to the ring before and loved it. Accommodation is pretty much booked up so will stay about 30km away and drive to the event. It's on for 4 days, which day is the actual 24 hour event on? Also what happens for the rest of the time? Can you just park up in the forests and walk to the edge of the track to spectate for free like normal or do you have to pay? Any help would be much appreciated.
